Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>has been out for quite some time now, and given the slow rate at which it is releasing DLC, players are ready for something new. In terms of\u00a0Dragon Ball Z\u00a0<\/em>games<\/a>, it isn’t very clear what will come next. At the moment, three series dominate the world of\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0<\/em>games, those being\u00a0Xenoverse<\/em>,\u00a0FighterZ<\/em>, and\u00a0as of this year,\u00a0Kakarot.\u00a0<\/em>It seems there are a number of potential options for the next\u00a0DBZ\u00a0<\/em>game, but the real question is which of these choices is most likely to happen, and which would fans like to see more.<\/p>\n

The current era of\u00a0Dragon Ball Z<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>games began in 2015 with the release of\u00a0Dragon Ball Xenoverse<\/em>. This was a title that took a very different approach to the standard\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0<\/em>game formula, a change that fans appreciated at the time. The\u00a0Xenoverse\u00a0<\/em>saga continued to expand in 2016 when\u00a0Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2\u00a0<\/em>released, but has since subsisted off add-on content. Two years later,\u00a0Dragon Ball FighterZ\u00a0<\/em>came out, taking fans back to the traditional 2D fighting style of\u00a0DBZ\u00a0<\/em>game but in a much more polished and stylistic way. Finally, 2020 marked\u00a0Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot<\/em>‘s release, a truly story focused game.<\/p>\n

The obvious place to start when guessing at what comes next for\u00a0Dragon Ball Z\u00a0<\/em>games is a sequel. Of the three series currently running the show,\u00a0Xenoverse\u00a0<\/em>is definitely next in line for a sequel.\u00a0Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot\u00a0<\/em>is simply too new at this point and still hasn’t even ran the course of its season pass. The only way a sequel could be made would be to focus on\u00a0Dragon Ball Super\u00a0<\/em>content, and that’s already been added in the form of DLC. Likewise,\u00a0Dragon Ball FighterZ\u00a0<\/em>is still releasing new characters<\/a> and growing.<\/p>\n

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3\u00a0<\/em>on the other hand is long overdue, and\u00a0Xenoverse 2\u00a0<\/em>can only tide fans over for so long. There are a lot of improvements to the game that could be made in a sequel, and fan support for this would likely be overwhelming. Given that it has been four years since the release of a\u00a0Xenoverse\u00a0<\/em>title, it wouldn’t be surprising to see\u00a0the game on next gen consoles. Of course, the fact that\u00a0Xenoverse 2\u00a0<\/em>will be released on PS5<\/a> is slightly concerning, but doesn’t rule out a sequel in the future.<\/p>\n

Though a sequel to any of the aforementioned games would be welcomed by fans, the best thing for Bandai Namco to do would be to release a new game altogether.\u00a0Dragon Ball FighterZ\u00a0<\/em>represents one of the cleanest and most polished combat system of\u00a0DBZ\u00a0<\/em>games<\/a>, while\u00a0Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot\u00a0<\/em>is by far the most in depth look at the show’s story. Finally,\u00a0Xenoverse 2\u00a0<\/em>provides players with way more customization in terms of character appearance and moves. Combining all of these things into one could create an amazing\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0<\/em>game.<\/p>\n

It may also be best not to make a\u00a0Dragon Ball Z\u00a0<\/em>game, but to make a\u00a0Dragon Ball Super\u00a0<\/em>game instead. Despite\u00a0the\u00a0Dragon Ball Super\u00a0<\/em>anime concluding in 2018, its content is still always retained for DLC purposes. Many fans desperately want a standalone\u00a0Dragon Ball Super\u00a0<\/em>game<\/a>, and with the introduction of the multiverse there are nearly endless potential stories to tell. A\u00a0Dragon Ball Super\u00a0<\/em>game could take\u00a0Kakarot<\/em>‘s approach, telling Goku and Vegeta’s story precisely, or it could follow in the footsteps of\u00a0Xenoverse<\/em>, perhaps allowing the player to create a character as the member of the Galactic Patrol. At this point the possibilities truly seem endless.<\/p>\n

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.<\/p>\n
