Pok\u00e9mon from the first generation (like other generations) can be based on animals or inanimate objects. There are even cases of Pok\u00e9mon based on y\u014dkai, supernatural monsters in Japanese folklore.<\/p>\n

These designs resonate with players because of their originality. What’s interesting about Cubone is the backstory behind its appearance. Cubone wears the skull of his dead mother as a helmet. We never actually see Cubone’s face since it always wears the skull. Survival is tough for this small creature, yet it gets by using a bone as a weapon. With the bone, Cubone can use moves like Bone Club and Boomerang, which are exclusive to this fascinating Pok\u00e9mon.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Squirtle<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As one of the original starter Pok\u00e9mon, Squirtle has a design that is based on a blue turtle. It can spray streams of water from its mouth with precise accuracy.\u00a0Squirtle withdraws into its shell when it is sleeping.<\/p>\n

Squirtle puts on sunglasses and adopts a new persona as he becomes a member of the Squirtle Squad.\u00a0In the anime, Ash Ketchum’s Squirtle is the leader of the gang.<\/a> The Squirtle Squad is known for causing mischief and for hosting the Shop ‘N Squirtle channel in the game Pok\u00e9mon Channel.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Mewtwo<\/h2>\n

Mewtwo has two Mega Evolutions, but it’s hard to beat the original design.<\/a>\u00a0In many ways, Mewtwo resembles the ancient Pok\u00e9mon Mew, except for being taller and filled with hatred. This bipedal design is unique, earning points for creativity.<\/p>\n

In the first generation of the Pok\u00e9mon<\/em> games, Mewtwo is found lurking deep within the Cerulean Cave. According to the Pok\u00e9mon Red<\/em> Pok\u00e9dex entry<\/a>, “It was created by a scientist after years of horrific gene splicing and DNA engineering experiments.”<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Tentacruel<\/h2>\n

This Water-type and Poison-type Pok\u00e9mon has appeared in multiple episodes of Pok\u00e9mon.<\/em>\u00a0According to Ash’s Pok\u00e9dex, “Tentacruel, a Jellyfish Pok\u00e9mon. An evolved form of the\u00a0Tentacool. Its numerous tentacles serve as a powerful weapon. It is known as ‘The Gangster of the Sea.'”<\/p>\n

It has a giant appearance, which is reminiscent of a squid. However, Tentacruel also shares characteristics of a jellyfish. It has also been suggested that it looks like an alien. It’s head’s red gems are like glowing eyes, which\u00a0is likely a defense mechanism.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Eevee<\/h2>\n

Pok\u00e9mon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!<\/em>\u00a0prove that Generation I is still relevant all of these years later. One of the titular Pok\u00e9mon<\/em> of the two remakes\u00a0is the adorable Normal-type Eevee.<\/a> Because of its popularity, Eevee became more than a secondary Pok\u00e9mon. It received a significant upgrade to its stats and moves in the seventh generation remakes. Gengar was one of the first Pok\u00e9mon to appear in the franchise’s history.\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Blue and Red<\/em>‘s intro begins as Gengar squares off against a Jigglypuff or Nidorino. Gengar’s appearance is much like the silhouette of another Pok\u00e9mon. It is a shadow, which is ingenuity on the part of Pok\u00e9mon’s creators. Frightening and powerful, this design profoundly speaks to Pok\u00e9mon<\/em> players.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Scyther<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Generation 1 and Generation 1 remake players understand the frustration of trying to find this Pok\u00e9mon. However, Scyther can be purchased at the Game Corner for a pretty penny if you want to spend Pok\u00e9mon Dollars. It can also be found in areas of the Safari Zone, but there’s a low chance that you’ll encounter one and be able to catch it.<\/p>\n

Scyther’s design resembles a praying mantis. Its sharp claws make it a powerful foe, and an asset to any team. According to Pok\u00e9mon Blue<\/em>‘s Pok\u00e9dex entry,<\/a> “With ninja-like agility and speed, it can create the illusion that there is more than one.”<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Gyarados<\/h2>\n

In later games of\u00a0the series, Gyarados can evolve into Mega Gyarados. Its appearance is reminiscent of a snake or a dragon. This serpentine Pok\u00e9mon has sharp teeth, and oddly enough, it rarely closes its mouth. Few could’ve predicted that Magikarp would evolve into such a frightening water beast. You can find Gyarados in both fresh and salt waters.<\/a> This is one of the most creative designs we’ve seen in Pok\u00e9mon thus far.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Pikachu<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Pikachu is based on the pika animal.<\/a> The Pok\u00e9mon company does a great job of choosing lesser-known animals to based their designs. This small rodent’s appearance is similar to a mouse, except it is electrically charged. It’s not the most complicated design, but it does score points for creativity.<\/p>\n

Pikachu is the mascot of Pok\u00e9mon. It’s unlikely that even the Pok\u00e9mon creators could’ve predicted the massive popularity of this creature. Pikachu eventually received a standalone film called\u00a0Detective Pikachu.<\/em><\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Charizard<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As the mascot of Pok\u00e9mon Red<\/em> and Fire Red<\/em><\/a>, Charizard has an intimidating appearance. Its Japanese name translates to Lizardon, which reveals that a lizard inspired it. It may also take after a dragon or the mythical version of a salamander.<\/p>\n

For being one of the rarest cards in the\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Trading Card Game\u00a0<\/em>and for its artwork,\u00a0<\/em>Charizard is a worthy contender for the most creative Pok\u00e9mon. This design has resonated with players worldwide and is an excellent addition to any trainer’s lineup.<\/p>\n
