Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/strong><\/em> is changing up the CoD formula in more ways than one, and its change to scorestreaks is certainly going to be a controversial one. Today, it was confirmed that\u00a0Black Ops Cold War<\/em><\/a> will be taking the risk of making scorestreaks carry over after dying.<\/p>\n

While longtime fans will no doubt be happy to see the return of the\u00a0old mini-map in Black Ops Cold War<\/em><\/a>, the change to scorestreaks will no doubt be disliked by a portion of the community. Streaks not resetting on death is a new concept for the CoD<\/em> community, with the best comparison being Modern Warfare 3<\/em>\u2019s support streaks. While those streaks did not reset on death, they were mostly nonlethal as opposed to Black Ops Cold War<\/em>\u2019s scorestreaks which will likely include some deadlier options.<\/p>\n

The new scorestreak system also features kill chains, with more kills in a single life granting more score towards the streaks. \u201cChain score\u201d will be displayed on screen to indicate the increase in score earned for the killstreak, and its inclusion seems like a smart way to reward players for getting multiple kills in a row. Still, streaks not resetting upon death rewards lesser skilled players and is sure to be a disappointing addition for those who are good at Call of Duty<\/em>. Whether kills in the new Black Ops Cold War<\/em> vehicles<\/a> will count toward scorestreaks is unclear.<\/p>\n

As expected, the main strength of the scorestreak system will return, as Charlie Intel confirms that score will be earned for playing the objective as well as getting kills. For fans of the original scorestreak system, this was a big point in favor of using it over killstreaks. Rewarding players points towards their streaks forces people to play the objective in modes like Domination, and without the system, many players do not feel a need to try to win. The scorestreak system should fare well in the larger-scale gameplay of Black Ops Cold War<\/em>\u2019s 12v12 mode<\/a> Combined Arms.<\/p>\n

The final important tidbit regarding the new scorestreaks of Black Ops Cold War<\/em> is the limitation of spamming through a cooldown system. When each streak is used by a player it will be put on cooldown for some time, meaning that players cannot spam deadly streaks like helicopters over and over and force the enemy team into a spawn trap. How long those cooldowns last will vary by streak, meaning that a UAV will likely be ready for use by a teammate quicker than higher score streaks. Black Ops Cold War<\/em>\u2019s scorestreak system is almost entirely new, and it will be interesting to see what the community thinks of it when they try the beta on October 8th<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With even Black Ops Cold War<\/em>\u2019s Zombies offering<\/a> looking a bit different from previous takes on the mode, Treyarch is doing everything it can to shake things up with Call of Duty<\/em> this year. Whether Black Ops Cold War<\/em>\u2019s many changes are popular or despised remains to be seen, but it likely will not take long for fans to let the developers know what they think.<\/p>\n

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/strong><\/em> will be available November 13th on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions are also planned.<\/p>\n
