Los Angeles-based OpTic Gaming&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/call-of-duty\/\"><em>Call of Duty<\/em><\/a>\u00a0team has announced it will be\u00a0releasing four players, including one member of its\u00a0starting\u00a0line-up.<\/p>\n<p>Succeeding in\u00a0<em>Call of Duty<\/em>&#8216;s fiercely competitive esports scene demands stellar performances, and OpTic had a rough start in the 2020 season. With the 2021 season fast approaching, team owners are making hard calls to determine who to keep to maximize their odds of success. Given the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-league-no-expansion-team-2021\/\">rumor that the <em>Call of Duty<\/em> League will not be expanding next season<\/a>, competition for a spot on one of the league&#8217;s 12 existing teams is fierce.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-duty-league-twitter-us-army-sponsorship\">Call of Duty League Signs Multi-Year Deal With Twitter, Gets US Army Sponsorship<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The four players who will be departing from OpTic are Chino, Goonjar, Hollow, and Dashy. OpTic broke the news on Twitter, where it\u00a0gave a special shout-out to Brandon &#8220;Dashy&#8221; Otell. Dashy made a\u00a0powerful impression\u00a0in last year&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Call of Duty: Black Ops 4\u00a0<\/em>season, but he was benched this\u00a0July after a string of inconsistent performances. Competitive\u00a0teams typically cannot afford to be indulgent with young talent\u00a0given\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-league-prize-money-how-much\/\">the cash stakes in the <em>Call of Duty<\/em> League are\u00a0extremely high<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OpTicGaming\/status\/1303416338585538560\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Another\u00a0notable departure from OpTic is Darien &#8220;Hollow&#8221; Chverchko, who inherited Dashy&#8217;s spot on the starting lineup. Though the switch-up helped OpTic turn things around late in the season, they were unable to make the &#8220;top eight&#8221; cut-off to remain in contention. While trimming a player who performed well may seem drastic, OpTic&#8217;s cuts are mild compared to other cuts that have already been announced. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/call-of-duty-minnesota-rokkr-drops-roster-disappointing-2020-season\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota&#8217;s ROKKR team revealed it will\u00a0be dropping its entire roster<\/a>, save for head coach Brian &#8220;Saintt&#8221; Baroska.<\/p>\n<p>Players are not the only esports professionals who have been dismissed throughout\u00a0the 2020 season. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-league-momo-fired-activision-blizzard\/\">Activision Blizzard fired\u00a0<em>Call of Duty\u00a0<\/em>League caster Momo<\/a> after sexual assault allegations came to light in early July.<\/p>\n<p>Even putting aside these professional shakeups, it has been a tumultuous\u00a0first season for the\u00a0<em>Call of Duty\u00a0<\/em>League, as competitions were forced to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-duty-league-online-coronavirus\/\">shift to an online-only format in light of the coronavirus pandemic<\/a>. However, the league is in no danger of failing though given its multi-year sponsorships from Twitter and the US Army.
