Shocking the world at the tail-end of the\u00a0Ubisoft\u00a0Forward press conference yesterday<\/a>, it was revealed that the\u00a0beloved\u00a0Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>will finally be resurrected after disappearing back in 2014. The trailer teased that the title would return better than ever, with both the Knives Chau and Wallace Wells DLC included alongside the base game.<\/p>\n

Few were as overjoyed about the announcement\u00a0as\u00a0Bryan Lee O’Malley, the original creator of the Scott Pilgrim<\/em> comic book series which the movie\u00a0– and thus the video game adaptation\u00a0– were based upon. However, while O’Malley has been a big advocate for the title’s return to consoles\u00a0– even posting on Twitter\u00a0recently\u00a0about how it needed to be resurrected\u00a0– it seems both he and the original creators of the game have little to no involvement in\u00a0The Complete Edition<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Speaking to Kotaku, the veteran comic book cartoonist was quick to tell fans that he’s barely involved in the title’s re-release,\u00a0revealing to\u00a0the publication “(Ubisoft) had been working on it for a while, and people at Universal were supposed to be telling me about it, but there was a communication breakdown.” It seems O’Malley was left in the dark about what was happening with the long-awaited re-release, which is\u00a0strange\u00a0considering many believed the artist had teased the game after a suspicious tweet he posted was acknowledged by Ubisoft<\/a> with an emoji. “When Ubi tweeted that emoji at me, that was because their PR people thought I knew about it and was being a tease,” O’Malley reveals, clearing up that even then he was unaware of what was going on.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, he goes on to reveal that the game’s original creators are seemingly not involved in the remaster either, clarifying “none of the original creators are working on the re-release,” and that his involvement is little more than standing as a “figurehead for the fans.” The creator also went on to reveal\u00a0that he actually\u00a0doesn’t make any money off the\u00a0Scott Pilgrim vs. The World<\/a><\/em>\u00a0video game adaptation and never has.<\/p>\n

For those wondering, Bryan Lee O’Malley was in fact involved in the original release of the game, allegedly discussing the flow of Scott Pilgrim<\/em>‘s story<\/a> with Ubisoft and showing off some sketches on which the title’s cut-scenes were based. It seems he’s genuinely a fan of the game, and while his supporters are frustrated with how Ubisoft has dealt with the talented comic book artist, it seems he’s just happy to see the\u00a0colourful beat ’em up\u00a0return to shelves.<\/p>\n
