Pokemon GO<\/em><\/strong> has been enjoying a successful string of updates this summer, with fans\u00a0most recently\u00a0rejoicing the arrival of long-awaited Mega Pokemon. Now that favorites\u00a0like Mega Blastoise and Mega Venusaur are available, Niantic has allowed\u00a0players to dress the part by\u00a0donning the famous “Mega Bracelet.”<\/p>\n

The Mega Bracelet was originally introduced in\u00a0Pokemon X\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Y<\/em>, and allowed players to Mega Evolve a select pool of Pokemon teammates. Although Mega Evolution in the main series games is\/was impossible without a Mega Bracelet,\u00a0Pokemon GO<\/em><\/a> has strayed from the path a bit and allowed players to Mega Evolve by using a new form of “energy,” regardless of Mega Accessory.<\/p>\n

As mentioned, players in\u00a0Pokemon GO<\/em> are actually able to freely Mega Evolve Pokemon by using “Mega Energy,”<\/a>\u00a0which can be earned by defeating the corresponding Pokemon in a Mega Raid Battle. Aside from having enough of the appropriate Mega Energy, there are no prerequisites to Mega Evolution in\u00a0Pokemon GO<\/em>, which is to say, the Mega Bracelet is merely a cosmetic item.<\/p>\n

Players hoping to equip the iconic Pokemon accessory need only open up their Avatar’s Style menu, and head to the “Gloves” section. As of the latest\u00a0Pokemon GO<\/em> update<\/a>, there are four different Mega Bracelets available in the Style menu: a white Mega Bracelet, available free of charge, and three team-based Mega Bracelet\u00a0designs, available for 100 Poke Coins.<\/p>\n

Again, equipping these Mega Bracelets does not offer any bonuses or abilities to the player – these Mega Bracelets are simply neat additions to the\u00a0Pokemon GO<\/em> wardrobe. They don’t offer stat bonuses, or any sort of different Evolution animation sequence. So those lucky\u00a0Trainers who have managed\u00a0to capture\u00a0a dazzling\u00a0Shiny\u00a0Weedle from the Mega Discovery Research Tasks<\/a>\u00a0(which\u00a0are around again, by the way,) unfortunately won’t get any sort of special intro-animation to honor their catches.<\/p>\n

With fans still eager for new content, and awaiting fixes to existing content, it can be frustrating to see Niantic devote\u00a0its time to paid cosmetic products. That said, the fact that all players are\u00a0able to at least take advantage of the free (and honestly, sleeker,) generic Mega Bracelet,\u00a0shows that the company isn’t completely tone deaf\u00a0with regard to its wider, more casual, playerbase. For now, players will just have to hold on tight for potential incoming\u00a0upgrades like Mega Houndoom<\/a>.<\/p>\n
