In the case of Sony, the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ps5-game-pages-playstation-website\/\">PS5 launch titles already have pages on Playstation&#8217;s website<\/a>. But the ultimate test of quality cannot come until players actually have the games.<\/p>\n<p>One of the wildcards in the upcoming lineup is\u00a0<strong><em>Godfall<\/em><\/strong>. Developed by CounterPlay Games,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/godfall\/\">Godfall<\/a>. M<\/em>arketed as a looter slasher rather than a looter shooter, it follows\u00a0<em>Borderlands<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Destiny<\/em> as templates for its gameplay loop, while employing gameplay all its own. But beyond the basic premise, a lot about\u00a0<em>Godfall<\/em> remains mysterious.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/godfall-avatar-last-airbender-comparisons-phoenix-king-water-earth-fire-air\/\">Godfall Has Interesting Avatar: The Last Airbender Comparisons<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The art style of\u00a0<em>Godfall<\/em> is different from others out there, which is to be expected. The design of the world and the characters occupying it bears more than a passing resemblance to those in\u00a0<em>Duelyst<\/em>, CounterPlay&#8217;s previous project. But aside from the basic premise, <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/godfall-game-release-date-gameplay-details-ps5-pc\/amp\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">everything known about <em>Godfall<\/em><\/a> doesn&#8217;t amount to much. However, as its release draws closer, that seems to be changing. A new gameplay trailer was released for\u00a0<em>Godfall<\/em> focusing specifically on combat with enemies.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kpxauM2ND-o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The combat trailer shows three distinct fighting styles, each represented by a different valor plate-weapon combination. In contrast to the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/godfall-vretigo-valorplate-gameplay\/\"><em>Godfall<\/em> gameplay revealed at Gamescom<\/a>, the battles are much flashier and more fast-paced. The Silvermane Valorplate user wields a sword and shield, while\u00a0Typhon uses\u00a0a spear and a mysterious third plate wields a war hammer.<\/p>\n<p>Snippets are shown of each fighting style, painting a good picture of what each is capable of. One impressive feature that is universal to each build is a slide that the characters frequently use to duck under enemy blows while repositioning themselves. It looks like a very slick version of the traditional dodge roll employed in many games.<\/p>\n<p>Two of the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/godfall-valorplate-classes-silvermane-phoenix-mesa-vertigo-greyhawk-typhon\/\">Valorplates revealed so far<\/a> in the trailer are known, even if their full range of abilities are not. The Silvermane plate seems to be a straightforward brawler, and it gets pretty brutal with its shield. The Typhon plate uses its spear to great effect with wide, fast slashes. It also uses precise strikes, a ranged throw, and even some shieldwork like the Silvermane. The biggest difference is in the gameplay for the unknown plate and its war hammer. For the most part, it&#8217;s the expected slow, large swings, but at one point it uses the warhammer like a boomerang.<\/p>\n<p>It certainly looks like combat in\u00a0<em>Godfall<\/em> has the potential to be very engaging. However, the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/godfall-news-information-reveals\/\">biggest potential pitfall for <em>Godfall<\/em><\/a> is not touched on in the video: its loot system. There are still questions about the rarity of\u00a0the weapons seen, and how exactly they interact with the Valorplates. This information will color the combat shown differently once it is known.
