And one of the ways it plans on doing that is with a new\u00a0anniversary encyclopedia exploring the lore of the franchise.<\/p>\n<p>The new\u00a0<em>Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em> encyclopedia, aptly named the\u00a0<em>Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia<\/em>, is a $50 hardcover book that will delve into the lore and details of every\u00a0<em>Sonic<\/em> game over the last 30 years. The encyclopedia is being written by Ian Flynn who is currently the head writer for the\u00a0<em>Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em> comic series from IDW Publishing, and has an extensive background working with the\u00a0<em>Sonic\u00a0<\/em>IP having written various comics, <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/sonic-hedgehog-boom-tv-show-trailer\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">episodes of\u00a0<em>Sonic Boom<\/em><\/a>, and some of the stories for the video games themselves.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ninjala-sonic-the-hedgehog-crossover\/\">Ninjala Announces Sonic the Hedgehog Collaboration<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, while the item description for the encyclopedia mentions that it will explore the lore within the\u00a0<em>Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em> games, it doesn&#8217;t go into what exactly that includes or how it&#8217;s presented. The product page on Amazon shows the cover art of the book but none of the pages inside. So it looks like fans will just have to speculate if their favorite <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sonic-hedgehog-characters-never-knew\/\">obscure\u00a0<em>Sonic<\/em> character<\/a> will make an appearance when it releases on June 1, 2021.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TailsChannel\/status\/1305172952024047617?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia\u00a0<\/em>is but one of many <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sonic-the-hedgehog-30-anniversary-announcements\/\">big\u00a0<em>Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em> announcements<\/a> SEGA has in store for the Blue Blur&#8217;s 30th anniversary. While there hasn&#8217;t been any news as to what all these announcements could entail,\u00a0<em>Sonic\u00a0<\/em>fans will likely be happy that their favorite Hedgehog is getting the spotlight in celebration rather than the condemnation of a poorly received game.<\/p>\n<p>The reason for SEGA&#8217;s lack of\u00a0<em>Sonic\u00a0<\/em>30th anniversary announcements comes primarily due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, SEGA had planned on giving new details about future\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/new-sonic-the-hedgehog-game-sxsw-april-2020\/\"><em>Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em> projects at a panel at SXSW<\/a>. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, SXSW was cancelled and thus SEGA&#8217;s plans were put on hold for\u00a0the time-being.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s likely that SEGA was planning on providing details\u00a0for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/new-sonic-game-2019\/\">new\u00a0<em>Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em> game that was announced at SXSW<\/a> in 2019. This could either be good news or bad news depending on what style of game SEGA decides to go with. If it&#8217;s developing a 3D title, players may be a little hesitant to celebrate after being stung by\u00a0<em>Sonic Forces<\/em>.
