According to publisher Activision Blizzard, it has already been a landmark success for the long-running extreme sports series.<\/p>\n<p>The recently-released remake is the fastest game to reach a million units sold across its\u00a0entire franchise\u00a0that\u00a0began with <em>Tony Hawk&#8217;s Pro Skater<\/em> in 1999, according to a Tweet put out by Activision Blizzard today. A previous report from\u00a0GamesIndustry.Biz found that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/marvels-avengers-tony-hawk-nba-sales\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Pro Skater 1 + 2<\/em> was outsold by Crystal Dynamics&#8217; <em>Marvel&#8217;s Avengers<\/em><\/a> in regions like the UK, but also that the game sold 448 percent more copies in its first week than 2015&#8217;s <em>Tony Hawk&#8217;s Pro Skater 5<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/crusader-kings-3-tony-hawks-pro-skater-mod\/\">Crusader Kings 3 Mod Mashes It Up With Tony Hawk&#8217;s Pro Skater<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Series&#8217; namesake and professional skateboarder Tony Hawk responded to the announcement Tweet thanking diehard <em>Pro Skater<\/em> fans who helped\u00a0inspire the remaster, as &#8220;you were the catalyst for all this success.&#8221; Its success has been more than just monetary, as many <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tony-hawks-pro-skater-1-2-review-roundup\/\">critics have lauded <em>Tony Hawk&#8217;s Pro Skater 1 + 2<\/em> in reviews<\/a> that cite its fun gameplay and well-handled restoration for modern consoles.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ATVI_AB\/status\/1305568653920931841?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While Hawk applauds fans of the series in general for helping to inspire the remaster and contributing to its success, fans have played more of a literal role in putting <em>Tony Hawk&#8217;s Pro Skater 1 + 2<\/em> together as well. Andy Gentile, also known as AndyTHPS, was an avid <em>Pro Skater<\/em> fan who had the chance to work on titles like <em>Tony Hawk&#8217;s Underground<\/em>\u00a0(2003), and he is now a Senior Designer for <em>Pro Skater 1 + 2<\/em>. He recently showed off his skills by getting a <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tony-hawks-pro-skater-andythps-100-million-combo-twitch\/\">100 million combo score live on Twitch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The release of this remake is not the only attention afforded to the <em>Tony Hawk&#8217;s Pro Skater<\/em> franchise in 2020. Last month, the documentary <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tony-hawks-pro-skater-documentary-release-august-2020\/\"><em>Pretending I&#8217;m a Superman: The Tony Hawk Video Game Story<\/em> released<\/a> through video on demand and streaming, offering fans further insight into the development of the classic skateboarding series at Neversoft.<\/p>\n<p>Between these releases, as well as the full launch of Easy Day Studios&#8217; <em>Skater XL<\/em> and the announcement of EA&#8217;s <em>Skate 4<\/em>, the extreme sports genre is going stronger than it has in quite some time.
