The Pokemon Company is making\u00a0its\u00a0mark on Japan once again with the addition of manhole covers in the form of the popular Gyarados and its shiny red counterpart. Alongside the major\u00a0release of the popular\u00a0Pokemon GO<\/em><\/a>, this is one of several moves\u00a0to expand\u00a0the franchise and elevate tourism for Japan.<\/p>\n

As reported by Nintendo Soup, Japan is getting several new manhole covers with\u00a0the famous Pokemon Gyarados on them. One with the classic\u00a0blue Gyarados and the second with the fearsome Red Gyarados, one of the franchise’s famous shiny Pokemon<\/a>.\u00a0These\u00a0utility covers are being installed within the Shiga Prefecture of Japan’s Otsu City as part of an effort to help increase tourism for Japan and its various localities.<\/p>\n

The Pokemon Utility Lid covers or “Poke Lids” are reportedly being installed across the country of Japan, though they haven’t reached\u00a0everywhere yet. However, these two covers are the first ones to be emplaced in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture of the Kinki region. Each of these Poke Lids is part of a larger initiative by the Pokemon Company<\/a> called Pokemon Local Acts to increase tourism for Japan.<\/p>\n

This involves activities from sending fully suited mascots of popular pokemon like Chansey, Geodude, Slowpoke, and more as ambassadors\u00a0to\u00a0various towns, helping people find out what kind of Pokemon they are<\/a>, to installing uniquely designed Poke Lids of popular pokemon throughout Japan.<\/p>\n

The primary goal of these ventures\u00a0is to showcase more of Japan’s people and country to the world with Pokemon in one form or another. Activities like the suited Pokemon Ambassadors to the creative Poke Lids are used to bring out the best charm in their towns and locals while adding some more of their own to the mix. All of this is to further boost tourism activity in Japan and add more to the experience of traveling to the country and meeting its people.<\/p>\n

The world is very much immersed in Pokemon<\/em>, and the Pokemon Company is continuing to take it to the very next level. The release\u00a0of Pokemon GO<\/em> several years ago and its continuous use<\/a> now shows how much people can get themselves wrapped up into the franchise, even if they don’t regularly play the video or card games.\u00a0With full-body suit mascots, unique Poke Lids, and more, this franchise\u00a0continues to be a widespread phenomenon across the globe. Pokemon finds its way into people’s hearts and minds with Poke Lids as\u00a0just another part of that growth.<\/p>\n
