It&#8217;s the day that <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/nvidia\/\">Nvidia<\/a>&#8216;s latest cutting-edge graphics card, the <strong>Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080<\/strong>, launches. The $699 and up GPU makes significant improvements even over its last generation cards, offering excellent performance even at 4K resolution. But some things aren&#8217;t meant to be. It seems that the Nvidia RTX 3080 has already sold out across most retailers without most even getting a chance to add to cart.<\/p>\n<p>The problems started when a reported NDA&#8217;d launch time for pre-orders leaked in the days before Nvidia&#8217;s 3080\u00a0released. 6:00 am PT\/9:00 am ET on September 17 would be <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nvidia-geforce-3080-time-sale-when\/\">when retailers could begin selling 3080 cards<\/a>, said the report. Having a date and exact time may seem helpful, but the opposite is true. Scalpers\u00a0using bots are widespread in the graphics card industry. With an exact time, they can purchase a card even before a website&#8217;s updated to list it. And that&#8217;s exactly what many assume happened with Nvidia&#8217;s 3080.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nvidia-hint-rtx-3080-20-gb-memory\/\">Nvidia Drops Hint About RTX 3080 With 20 GB Memory<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the best, and worst, example is Nvidia&#8217;s own storefront. Nvidia was exclusively offering its own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/nvidia-reveals-geforce-rtx-3080-3070-3090\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Founder&#8217;s Edition of the GeForce RTX 3080 card<\/a>. Thousands of PC gaming enthusiasts were refreshing Nvidia&#8217;s listing for the 3080 waiting for it to become available. It never did. Shortly after 6:00 am PT, the listing for the card simply went from &#8220;Notify Me,&#8221; a button that would send an email to a user when the card came in stock, to &#8220;Out_of_Stock.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/pcmasterrace\/comments\/iujhh9\/rtx_3080_it_never_was_in_stock\/\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The card never even updated to &#8220;In Stock&#8221; or &#8220;Add to Card.&#8221; This can&#8217;t be understated. Thousands of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/console-vs-pc-game-play-memes-hilarious\/\">PC gaming enthusiasts<\/a> agree that no one ever saw the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 come into stock on Nvidia&#8217;s website. It had to have been sold out via bot usage, with bots taking advantage of Nvidia&#8217;s backend updating before its website ever updated.<\/p>\n<p>Other websites didn&#8217;t fare much better. Both Newegg and Best Buy, among others online retailers, also <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pc-games-graphic-cards-gpu-nvidia-amd-3070-3080-3090-30-series-6000-series\/\">launched their third-party 3080 cards<\/a> at or around the same time as the reported embargo. Those cards, at least, didn&#8217;t go instantly, but the difference may not be meaningful. Many are claiming that most of the cards were sold out instantly, so quickly that a human couldn&#8217;t add the card to their cart fast enough to compete.<\/p>\n<p>There are still potential opportunities to purchase a 3080. Amazon notably hasn&#8217;t launched its selection of 3080 cards yet and no one knows when they&#8217;ll be available. Those cards may not be instantly picked up by bots or scalpers. It&#8217;s also possible that other retailers will get more of the 3080 in-stock in the weeks to come.
