The statement claims that Rowling has had limited involvement with <em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/harry-potter-hogwarts-legacy\/\">Hogwarts Legacy<\/a>&#8216;s<\/em> story and development.<\/p>\n<p>It is unlikely that the expedient announcement is coincidental, as Rowling has recently drawn fire for a litany of transphobic tweets and an aggressive essay intended to clarify her position. Her recently released novel,\u00a0<em>Troubled Blood<\/em>, has renewed controversy for featuring a cisgendered male serial killer who cross-dresses to prey on women.\u00a0Many former fans have expressed anger, alienation, and even grief over the author&#8217;s comments, feeling that the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/harry-potter\/\"><em>Harry Potter<\/em><\/a> franchise is now tainted by her involvement.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/harry-potter-hogwarts-legacy-ps5-gameplay-reveal\/\">Harry Potter RPG Hogwarts Legacy Revealed for PlayStation 5<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Facing an outcry and calls for a preemptive boycott on Twitter, Warner Bros. issued a statement emphasizing the company&#8217;s commitment to &#8220;fostering a diverse and inclusive culture&#8221; and their &#8220;responsibility to foster empathy,&#8221; without specifically naming Rowling&#8217;s comments as a catalyst. Similarly, <em>Hogwarts Legacy<\/em>&#8216;s FAQ states that Rowling was not involved with the game&#8217;s creation, and that its story is not based on a new<em>\u00a0<\/em>narrative from the author. The statement does acknowledge Rowling&#8217;s &#8220;extraordinary body of writing\u00a0is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding World,&#8221; however.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1O6Qstncpnc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>These announcements and clarifications are\u00a0essential and expected PR moves, though for many fans, they may not be enough to redeem the project. Rowling will undoubtedly\u00a0receive royalties from the game, and fans looking to hold\u00a0her responsible for her discriminatory views\u00a0are already calling for a preemptive boycott of the title. The scenario\u00a0raises a dilemma of separating art from artist, particularly when a franchise grows to include hundreds of collaborators beyond the original creator.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody has been hit harder by the situation than <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/harry-potter-rpg-jk-rowling-comments\/\">the <em>Hogwarts<\/em>\u00a0<em>Legacy\u00a0<\/em>developers<\/a>, who expressed hurt at Rowling&#8217;s comments. A majority of the developers are undoubtedly\u00a0fans of <em>Harry Potter<\/em>\u00a0and the Wizarding World universe, but feel betrayed or ashamed to be associated with\u00a0Rowling.<\/p>\n<p>The game&#8217;s impressive trailer promises\u00a0would-be witches and wizards the ability to attend Hogwarts in the late 1800s, exploring the school grounds and the world beyond. In addition to brewing potions, riding broomsticks, and learning a wide variety of magical spells,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/hogwarts-legacy-confirmed-creatures\/\"><em>Hogwarts Legacy<\/em>\u00a0boasts an impressive list of fantastic beasts<\/a> players can interact with.<\/p>\n<p>In many respects,\u00a0<em>Hogwarts Legacy<\/em> looks like it could be a\u00a0<em>Harry Potter<\/em> fan&#8217;s dream come true.
