Developer Sports Interactive announced that <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/football-manager-2021-delay-covid-19\/\"><em>Football Manager 2021<\/em> would be delayed due to COVID-19<\/a>\u00a0in July, and there are currently no updates as to when exactly the game will be released. However, the series&#8217; previous entry <em><strong>Football Manager 2020<\/strong><\/em> has apparently seen a huge amount of success\u00a0after being offered as a free title on the Epic Games Store.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/football-manager\/\"><em>Football Manager 2020<\/em><\/a>\u00a0is one of three free game on\u00a0the online storefront between September 17 and September 24 at 8:00 a.m. PT, alongside Zoink&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Stick It To The Man!<\/em> and Ubisoft&#8217;s <em>Watch Dogs 2<\/em>. Sports Interactive advertised this partnership on its blog by talking about the game&#8217;s cross-play and cross-progression as a way for previous fans to get it free on another platform, but it seems the response\u00a0extended\u00a0further.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/gdc-video-game-developers-delay-statistics-coronavirus\/\">One Third of Developers Say Their Games Were Delayed By COVID-19<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Over one million people\u00a0claimed a free copy of <em>Football Manager 2020<\/em>\u00a0on the Epic Games Store in three days, according to a Tweet put out by Studio Director Miles Jacobson today. He said over half of that came in 24 hours, and five times more people claimed the game in the\u00a0first 36 hours\u00a0than during the entire two-week period when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/football-manager-2020-free-to-play\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Football Manager 2020<\/em> was offered for free on Steam<\/a>\u00a0in March.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/milesSI\/status\/1307704724054052865?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While <em>Football Manager 2020<\/em> has clearly been a successful game for both Sports Interactive and publisher Sega, it was also something of a trailblazer upon release on October 31, 2019. The game was entirely sold in recyclable cardboard packaging to help reduce the environmental impact of plastic casing typically used by video game companies, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sega-pc-games-recycle\/\">Sega Europe decided to publish all PC games in recyclable packaging<\/a> to follow that, starting with this year&#8217;s &#8220;Enemy at the Gates&#8221; edition of\u00a0<em>Total War: Rome 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Other developers have also seen success by offering up their games for free during limited periods. Another recent example is Mediatonic&#8217;s <em>Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout<\/em>, which became a widely-played social media sensation after launching as one of the PlayStation Plus free games for August 2020. That game became so popular it was even played by members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fall-guys-la-chargers-sofi-stadium\/\">LA Chargers using the jumbotron in California&#8217;s\u00a0new SoFi Stadium<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After <em>Football Manager 2020<\/em>, <em>Stick It To The Man!<\/em>, and <em>Watch Dogs 2<\/em> finish their free week, the Epic Games Store will be offering <em>RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Complete Edition<\/em> for free between September 24 and October 1.
