It continues to <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-fan-theories\/\">inspire endless fan theories<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-7-vs-10-best-game-series\/\">debates over which series entry is the best,<\/a> while its wonderful soundtracks are enjoyed around the world, even by some who have never played the games. The power of <em>Final Fantasy<\/em> can\u2019t be overstated.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-iron-giant-facts\/\">Final Fantasy: 10 Things You Didn\u2019t Know About Iron Giant<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>How many series have become so big that enemies\/creatures from the games get their own spin-offs? Not many. This is the legendary\u00a0regard\u00a0that Chocobos, Moogles, and the like are held in. Recurring enemies have become pop culture icons in their own right, and the humble Sahagin is another (slightly more low-key) example.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>They Appeared In The Very First Game<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/1-Final-Fantasy-Sahagin.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The first instalment of <em>Final Fantasy<\/em>, much like <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-red-blue-features-best-worst\/\">the first generation of <em>Pok\u00e9mon<\/em>, set a solid foundation\u00a0for the series but certainly had its shortcomings.<\/a> It established the job class mechanic that would define the earlier releases, but lacked many notable enemies that would become mainstays later.<\/p>\n<p>The Sahagin was present and correct, though, popping up which the player in navigating the ocean like the aquatic menace it is. They didn\u2019t pose very much of a threat in this game, being rather weak, but they looked the part.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>There Are Various Forms Of Sahagin<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/2-Final-Fantasy-VII-Remake-Sahagin-Prince.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>While the Sahagin is generally defined by its gills and \u2018merperson\u2019 appearance, there have been many, many different varieties of it over the course of the mainline series\u2013 the Sahagin Chief (which has itself appeared in several games), <em>Final Fantasy III<\/em>\u2019s Merman, the Sahagin Knight of <em>The After Years, Crisis Core<\/em>\u2019s Emperor Sahagin, and Water Warrior. As with most of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-weirdest-enemies\/\"><em>Final Fantasy<\/em>\u2019s outlandish recurring enemies,<\/a> there are now more varieties of this creature than fans can count. Usually, they\u2019re physical attackers, sometimes with water-based magic and defensive moves.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>They\u2019re Exclusive To One Small Area In Final Fantasy V<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/3-Final-Fantasy-Sahagin.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Sahagin, in one form or another, makes an appearance in a lot of mainline entries. This includes <em>Final Fantasy V<\/em>, though many players may have missed it entirely in that title. It\u2019s not particularly powerful or special, it doesn\u2019t offer any unusually good loot, but it\u2019s super rare.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-bomb-unknown-facts\/\">Final Fantasy: 10 Awesome Things You Didn\u2019t Know About The Bomb<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Alongside another palette swap, the Nix, Sahagin is only found in the water to the south of the Phoenix Tower in this game. With only a Potion available to steal\/as loot and just weak physical attacks to utilize, it really isn\u2019t worth the trouble of tracking this creature down in <em>Final Fantasy V<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>FFVII\u2019s Sahagin Has A\u00a0Few Tricks Up Its Shell<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/4-Final-Fantasy-VII-Sahagin-Battle.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>On the other hand,<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/chrono-trigger-squares-best-rpg-final-fantasy-7\/\"> the legendary\u00a0<em>Final Fantasy VII<\/em><\/a>\u2019s Sahagin is a far more notable enemy. For one thing, they have the more turtle-like appearance seen in later games, not to mention a sharp trident that they\u2019re just itching to jab\u00a0the party with. The pain they can cause isn\u2019t limited to just that (or their Water Gun attack), though.<\/p>\n<p>They have a chance to react to a physical attack with Shell Defense, which will increase their physical damage resistance to a silly level. Players who have been relying on the Attack command alone might come unstuck in the Midgar Sewers, dealing a single point of damage to these pesky things. Magic is the way forward here!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>They\u2019re Even More Annoying In Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/5-Final-Fantasy-VII-Remake-Sahagin.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-7-remake-cloud-different-same\/\"><em>Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/em>,<\/a> Cloud and the party have even more issues with the Sahagin. Its appearance in the game is based on the Sahagin of the original, and its retains its defensive capabilities, but with an additional tricky element to its attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Like some other variations of the creature, this version can perform jumping attacks, which are capable of stunlocking characters if they\u2019re struck several times in succession. Stunlocking, needless to say, is never a fun time for anyone concerned.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>They Teach Niche Blue Magic In Final Fantasy IX<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/6-Final-Fantasy-IX-Sahagin-Battle.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/final-fantasy-9\/\"><em>Final Fantasy IX<\/em><\/a>, Quina Quen is often regarded as the all-around best <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-9-every-party-member-ranked-intelligence\/\">party member in the game.<\/a> In story terms, they don\u2019t add very much beyond comic relief, but the versatility offered by their Blue Magic makes them a force to be reckoned with.<\/p>\n<p>Blue Mages have always been very unconventional but a lot of fun to use, and Quina is no different. To get them started the right way in a playthrough, make sure to use the Eat command on a Sahagin in Qu\u2019s Marsh, right after Quina joins the party. They\u2019ll learn Aqua Breath\u00a0by doing so (Axolotl, Clipper, and Green Vepal can also teach this spell), which deals fixed damage (one quarter of the enemy\/enemies\u2019 HP) and has a 50-50 chance to hit. It can be handy when trying to set up other enemies to be eaten, but is rarely used beyond that.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>A Sahagin Serves As The Namingway Of Revenant Wings<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/7-Final-Fantasy-XII-Revenant-Wings.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Of the many names that recur in the series, Namingway is one of the most curious. It can be the name of an item, a character or so on, but is usually associated with the secret ability to change the name of other characters\/objects\/etc.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-bahamut-trivia\/\">Final Fantasy: 10 Awesome Things You Didn\u2019t Know About Bahamut<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In <em>Final Fantasy IX<\/em>, showing the Namingway card to a hidden NPC in Daguerreo \u2018inspired\u2019 them, offer the ability to change the names of party members. In <em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/final-fantasy-12\/\">Final Fantasy XII<\/a>: Revenant Wings<\/em>, meanwhile, Namingway is the name of a Sahagin hiding in the Galbana\u2019s Sky Saloon. Find him, and he\u2019ll offer to change the name of the ship for you.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>\u00a0They\u2019re Not Always Weak To Thunder<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8-Final-Fantasy-IV-Desert-Sahagin-Hundlegs-Battle.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>As fans of the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/pokemon\/\"><em>Pok\u00e9mon<\/em><\/a> games will know, the best way to take down a watery enemy is usually to send<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-best-electric-moves-ranked\/\"> a powerful Electric-type move<\/a> their way. It\u2019s not always as easy as that, though, and not every variation of <em>Final Fantasy<\/em>\u2019s Sahagins are weak against Thunder attacks.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/final-fantasy-crystal-chronicles\/\"><em>Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles<\/em><\/a>, the Sahagin\u2019s weakness is actually fire. Elsewhere in the series, the Desert Sahagin is weak against ice attacks instead. It doesn\u2019t matter how many times you encounter these things, they can still surprise you.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>They\u2019re Major Bullies In Final Fantasy XIII<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/9-Final-Fantasy-XIII-Mission-16.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>While it\u2019s true that Sahagins are hardly the most feared enemies in franchise history, they can still be a huge threat at times. They\u2019re easy enough to dispatch when they\u2019re by themselves, but groups of them can devastate a party very quickly.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/final-fantasy-13\/\"><em>Final Fantasy XIII<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0they\u2019re super speedy creatures that like to utilize the Slow status against their foes. Having done so, they tend to target one party member as a group, which can be a huge issue when many attacks are landing on the same character in succession. Strikes that hit several opponents at once are the best way to avoid being bullied into submission. Who knew the humble Sahagin could be so dangerous?<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>An Adorable Wind-Up Sahagin Minion\u00a0Can Be\u00a0Unlocked In FFXIV<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/10-Final-Fantasy-XIV-Wind-Up-Sahagin.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s not all about stunlocking and\/or bullying party members with Sahagins. They\u2019re rather weak outside of that. Interestingly, though, the small, cutest, and weakest Sahagin in the series is actually a minion, which features in <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/final-fantasy-14\/\"><em>Final Fantasy XIV<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Wind-Up Sahagin, unsurprisingly, can be purchased from the Sahagin Vendor. The game explains that Clutchfather Novv had this toy made for his spawnlings, so it could demonstrate to them the ways of battle.
