That number has increased exponentially from August, which\u00a0was also a huge month for <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/among-us\/\"><em>Among Us<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to mobile market tracker Sensor Tower, <em>Among Us<\/em>\u00a0has received over 41 million downloads in September 2020, up from\u00a0about 18 million downloads in August. The game was only downloaded about 1 million times each month in early 2020 before\u00a0the game became a viral hit. On top of the huge download numbers, developer InnerSloth recently reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/among-us-1-5-million-players-simultaneous-innersloth-party-game\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a concurrent player count\u00a0of over 1.5 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED<\/strong>:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/animal-crossing-among-us-crossover\/\"><em>Animal Crossing<\/em> Meets <em>Among Us<\/em> in Hilarious Video<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>These numbers are particularly remarkable because the game has been out since 2018. Recent play\u00a0by major streamers has enabled the game to reach a larger audience. In addition to playing the game, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/among-us-ace-attorney-mash-up-crossover\/\">fans have created impressive animations<\/a>\u00a0and other projects to show their fondness for the game. Another factor in the game&#8217;s prominence may be the COVID-19 pandemic, as\u00a0many players likely appreciate the chance to connect with friends through\u00a0<em>Among Us<\/em>\u00a0in the midst\u00a0of social distancing.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SensorTower\/status\/1306265307472973824\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Among Us<\/em>\u00a0puts groups of up to 10 players in a virtual spaceship, assigning each various tasks to keep the ship running. One or more crew members are secretly imposters, who aim to\u00a0destroy\u00a0the crew. As imposters sabotage the ship and kill crew members, players vote on who to evict,\u00a0leading to potentially\u00a0frantic arguments, especially if the crew evicts multiple players who are not the imposter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/among-us-2-trailer\/\">InnerSloth has announced\u00a0<em>Among Us 2<\/em><\/a>, and spending time building the infrastructure needed for current\u00a0<em>Among Us<\/em> players\u00a0could take time away from the sequel. As it stands, the game\u00a0is only available on mobile devices, and Windows PC, but some would argue its playerbase could\u00a0grow even more if additional platforms were supported. However, others might say this\u00a0could overwhelm the game&#8217;s\u00a0infrastructure more.<\/p>\n<p>Still, many fans are surely excited that the game is so popular. More players means more murders, more sabotage, and more negotiation. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/among-us-how-play-imposter-kill-sabotage\/\">The game typically requires nuanced strategies for imposters<\/a>, providing a great incentive to play again and again. Any time put into memorizing the game&#8217;s maps may also\u00a0pay off when the sequel releases.
