Interestingly, the game will be the first entry in the series since 2011&#8217;s\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/serious-sam-bfe-piracy-scorpion\/\">Serious Sam 3: BFE<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and acts as a prequel that\u00a0depicts the events\u00a0leading up to the third game.<\/p>\n<p>Those looking for a little more information about\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/serious-sam-4\/\">Serious Sam 4<\/a><\/em>&#8216;s\u00a0story are in luck, however, with a new trailer posted to Devolver Digital&#8217;s YouTube channel showing off exactly what to expect from the upcoming sequel&#8217;s campaign. As expected, it looks as\u00a0over the top as ever, with giant alien monsters, caricatured\u00a0army commandos, and a titular protagonist who&#8217;s seemingly built to spout cliche one-liners.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/serious-sam-4-planet-badass-no-subtitle-why\/\">Serious Sam 4 Dev Reveals Why Game Dropped Its Subtitle<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The trailer starts out with a dramatic speech from a maniacal\u00a0alien overlord, who warns humankind to not retaliate as its hordes of intergalactic monsters siege the earth. Alongside the impassioned monologue, the camera shows exactly what Sam and his allies are up against, with the landscape overrun by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/serious-sam-4-harpies-censorship\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a variety of menacing-looking aliens<\/a>\u00a0foes. Evidently, this won&#8217;t stop the game&#8217;s heroes, who go on to state a crazy plan to stop the alien invasion and repel the hostile intergalactic species. It involves finding a priest, uncovering the Ark of the Covenant, and delving inside to find the Holy Grail (which, of course, is an alien artifact).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/z-3Ykq_X3aw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The trailer then cuts to Sam undertaking this\u00a0insane goal, as he\u00a0goes head to head with\u00a0the giant aliens monopolizing the city&#8217;s streets. Among these\u00a0are a giant mechanical tentacle that can dig through the ground, a six-armed lizard, and more delightfully demonic monsters\u00a0that players can look forward to slaying on their journey.\u00a0The trailer also highlights a number of the game&#8217;s biggest setpieces, including battling flying alien ships while in a convoy of military vehicles and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/serious-sam-4-popemobile-mech\/\">jumping into\u00a0the giant &#8220;popemobile&#8221; mech<\/a> to fight a building-sized alien monstrosity.<\/p>\n<p>Those who want to get stuck into the wonderfully wacky world of\u00a0<em>Serious Sam 4\u00a0<\/em>don&#8217;t have long to wait now, with the game officially\u00a0dropping on September 24 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.
