Game of Thrones<\/em>‘ Jamie Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, deftly avoided answering whether he is in line to play The Last Of Us<\/em><\/strong>‘ Joel Miller during a recent “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit.\u00a0When asked by a fan whether he would be bringing Joel Miller to life in the HBO adaptation of the popular PlayStation video game, The Last of Us<\/em><\/a>, Coster-Waldau simply informed fans how he has recently purchased a copy of The Last of Us Part 2<\/em>, noting how it’s a “great game.”<\/p>\n

His refusal to directly acknowledge the question didn’t go unnoticed by fans, who believed that Coster-Waldau would be a perfect fit for the character<\/a>. One highlighted how his response wasn’t exactly a denial, leading others to speculate further.\u00a0Some pointed to how the actor could be playing the game as research for the role, allowing him to familiarize himself with the\u00a0world and characters of\u00a0The Last Of Us\u00a0<\/em>before any sort of official announcement is made for the eagerly-anticipated show.<\/p>\n

Fans highlighted how this approach recently worked wonders for Henry Cavill’s portrayal of The Witcher<\/em>‘s Geralt of Rivia <\/a>in Netflix’s adaptation of the popular novel and video game series. It was noted how, if those involved with the production are already fans of the story, as Cavill was of The Witcher<\/em>,\u00a0it typically helps bolster the end result.<\/p>\n

HBO’s The Last of Us<\/em> is being adapted for the small screen by Chernobyl<\/em>‘s Craig Mazin and the video game’s writer and co-director, Neil Druckmann, whose involvement will undoubtedly increase fan excitement, especially as they have promised the show will feature a “jaw drop” moment<\/a> that was actually cut from the original game. The game’s composer, Gustavo Santaolalla, will also be a part of the production, ensuring the show’s music accurately reflects its beloved source material. Sony Pictures Television will co-produce the show alongside HBO in association with PlayStation Productions.<\/p>\n

The HBO show was officially unannounced on March 6 after plans for a live-action movie adaptation faltered following years in development hell. The movie was first announced in March 2014 and, at one point, had prolific director Sam Raimi attached to the project. It was ultimately canceled to make way for the forthcoming HBO series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite the recent release of The Last of Us Part 2<\/em> on PlayStation 4, HBO’s The Last of Us<\/em> appears to be focused on delivering a live-action version of the first game. The story follows Joel Miller, a smuggler who is tasked with escorting a teenage girl, Ellie, across a post-apocalyptic United States as they attempt to survive against hordes of infected creatures and hostile human enemies.<\/p>\n

HBO’s The Last of Us<\/em> is currently in development. At the time of writing, there is no indication as to when it will air.<\/p>\n
