Between September 22 and 28, players are being encouraged to keep their Mega-capable Pokemon by their sides to complete research tasks, and one reward for completing the challenge will be the chance to encounter Mega Gengar in a future\u00a0Halloween event.<\/p>\n<p>There are four tiers of challenge tasks players have to complete before next Monday in order to unlock the exclusive <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-go-halloween-2020-mega-gengar\/\">Mega Gengar Timed Research during the 2020 Halloween event<\/a>, which was announced in an official news post by Niantic on August 31. Completing all four tasks will also net players 135 Mega Energy for Beedrill and the opportunity to encounter a Snorlax, as well as a collection of Stardust and XP.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-go-jessie-james-encounter-rate-increase\/\">Pokemon GO Increasing Jessie and James Encounter Rate<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Another facet of the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/pokemon-go\"><em>Pokemon GO<\/em><\/a> event this week is players having an increased chance to receive Beedrill, Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise Mega Energy through Field Research tasks.\u00a0Mega Evolution will last three-times as long as usual, and Niantic encourages players to take pictures\u00a0with their Megas and post them to social media with the hashtag &#8220;GOsnapshot.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PokemonGoApp\/status\/1308496271628546054?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Gengar is a popular Generation 1 Pokemon that has received a fair amount of attention in recent entries, including new forms through a Mega Evolution in <em>Pokemon X<\/em> and <em>Y,<\/em> as well as a Gigantamax variant in <em>Pokemon Sword<\/em> and <em>Shield<\/em>. It makes sense for Niantic to position this Ghost-type as a representative of the\u00a0spooky season now\u00a0that Mega Pokemon are available, though there will also be a <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-go-season-4-battle-league-halloween-event\/\">special Halloween Cup\u00a0in Pokemon GO this year<\/a>\u00a0that awards encounters with costumed Kanto starters.<\/p>\n<p>Despite all of the content <em>Pokemon GO<\/em>\u00a0has prepared for Halloween, some players may be\u00a0unable to access it. Earlier this month, Niantic announced it is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/pokemon-go-support-ending-older-devices\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ending <em>Pokemon GO<\/em> support for older mobile devices<\/a>\u00a0such as the iPhone 5s and 6 this October.
