The <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/xbox-series-x-pre-order-chaos-ps5\/\">Xbox Series X sales have proved to be very confusing<\/a> for multiple would-be buyers, and one reason is that some people are simply getting two different console generations mixed up.<\/p>\n<p>Tons of people went online today to try and pre-order their own <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/xbox-series-x\/\">Xbox Series X<\/a>, but many people came away disappointed both with the overwhelmingly high demand and with technical glitches on overloaded websites. Many people were already aware of the fact that the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/gamestop-xbox-series-x-s-pre-order-short-supply\/\">Xbox Series X\/S pre-orders would be in short supply<\/a>, but some people were simply not prepared for how fast the console could and did sell out on various retailers&#8217; websites.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/xbox-game-pass-subscribers-count\/\">Xbox Game Pass Hits Major New Subscriber Milestone<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, it would appear to be the case that some of those people who thought they got the Xbox Series X actually got an entirely different console: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/xbox-one-x-series-x-preorders-sales-last-gen-next-gen-microsoft-amazon\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Xbox One X<\/a>, named similarly to the Xbox Series X but of an earlier generation. One Amazon Associate took to Twitter to point out that today, the Xbox One X sales rank jumped over 700%, which to many people just can&#8217;t be a coincidence. It looks like a bunch of people got confused in the rush to get a pre-order and didn&#8217;t double-check the name of the console.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AndrewAlerts\/status\/1308497697775562752?s=19\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As the Amazon Associate @AndrewAlerts points out, Xbox is in a bit of a corner when it comes to console names, which in part fueled the confusion many people felt today or will feel later when they&#8217;re shipped an old console. The order goes Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox One X, and then Xbox Series X\/S. Andrew Alerts claims that the &#8220;Xbox 2\/Two&#8221; is not going to happen at this point, since to an uninformed buyer, seeing the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ps5-buy-digital-standard-pre-order\/\">PlayStation 5<\/a>\u00a0next to an Xbox 2\/Two would lead to more people buying the PlayStation since it has a higher number, and there&#8217;s the illusion of being more up-to-date.<\/p>\n<p>The OP opines that it would have been better if Microsoft had left &#8220;X&#8221; behind entirely and stuck to a completely new name for the upcoming console, so that this confusion could be avoided entirely, as one can see over the general population&#8217;s confusion over the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/wii-u-trending-twitter-why\/\">Wii U<\/a> vs the Wii.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the confusion over both the Xbox Series X\/S and the PS5 pre-orders, all three consoles sold out, so Microsoft and Sony&#8217;s marketing teams can be congratulated, at least.
