Netflix’s Stranger Things<\/em><\/strong><\/a> was one of the multiple projects to suspend production in March due\u00a0to the COVID-19 outbreak. Now, the streaming service’s popular series is reportedly planning to resume filming on\u00a0September 28th, 2020.<\/p>\n

In February 2020, Stranger Things<\/em> creators Matt and Ross Duffer confirmed production on the fourth season of the science fiction horror series was underway in a note to fans. Weeks later, Netflix followed up on the announcement by releasing a behind-the-scenes video<\/a> featuring the cast members as they reunited for the table read that marked the beginning of the fourth season’s production.<\/p>\n

After filming\u00a0wrapped in Vilnius, Lithuania, production returned to the United States to shoot in Atlanta, Georgia, until the shutdown was imposed on March 13th. Although Netflix is hoping to return to Georgia to restart production on September 28th, the start date is tentative and subject to change, likely depending on the status of the pandemic<\/a> by the end of the month. While the shutdown was a setback, writers of the series continued to\u00a0pen episodes for the fourth season during the\u00a0hiatus and completed all scripts by mid-June.<\/p>\n

The fourth season of Stranger Things<\/em>\u00a0will pick up where the previous season concluded<\/a>, with the presumed dead Jim Hopper being held prisoner in a USSR facility after sacrificing himself to destroy a hidden\u00a0Soviet lab in\u00a0Hawkins, Indiana. The series is also expected to expand beyond the aforementioned small town, which served as the primary location for the first three seasons until\u00a0Winona Ryder’s Joyce Byers moved away with her two sons and\u00a0Eleven at the end of season 3. While Netflix has not officially renewed\u00a0Stranger Things<\/em> for a fifth season, the Duffer Brothers have stated that the fourth season won’t be the conclusion of the series.<\/p>\n

Although Netflix may be optimistic about the possibility of resuming production on Stranger Things<\/em> by the end of the month,\u00a0others may question the wisdom of returning at a time when experts expect a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic<\/a> to begin. While the United States arguably never exited the first wave, countries that saw their reported case numbers go down over the summer are starting to see those figures rise again, potentially indicating that the predictions of experts will come to pass.<\/p>\n

Still, the COVID-19 pandemic did not seem to have a permanent impact on the production of The Batman<\/em> after Robert Pattinson tested positive for the virus. While\u00a0filming was shut down for two weeks while Pattinson recovered, production resumed once the actor was cleared of COVID-19<\/a>, so perhaps studios are expecting any setbacks caused the pandemic from here on out can be resolved relatively quickly.<\/p>\n

Stranger Things<\/em> season 4 will premiere exclusively on Netflix on a yet-to-be-determined date.<\/p>\n
