However, the organizers behind the event have announced that SXSW will return as\u00a0a new digital experience in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>SXSW was one\u00a0of many physical conventions, festivals, and other\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/twitchcon-amsterdam-canceled-coronavirus\/\">gatherings like TwitchCon to be canceled or delayed<\/a> due to the pandemic. The festival\u00a0is\u00a0normally held in the city of Austin, Texas opening a space where\u00a0creatives in different fields can\u00a0meet, network and share their work. It\u00a0will be reformatted\u00a0into SXSW Online between\u00a0March 16 and 20, 2021 as organizers work to get things back on track.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/blizzcon-online-2021\/\">BlizzCon 2021 Dates and Details Announced<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The event will be similar <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tokyo-comic-con-2020-online\/\">to other digital conversions like Tokyo Comic Con<\/a>, and is going to be divided between two different sessions: SXSW Online and SXSW EDU Online. The first will primarily be covering staple\u00a0activities for\u00a0film and music festivals, as well as hosting several panels for discussions. The\u00a0EDU Online session will center around promoting\u00a0discussions between\u00a0learners and entrepreneurs across\u00a0the fields of\u00a0education, and furthering connections amongst a\u00a0community of creatives.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sxsw\/status\/1308439492420866053?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>South by Southwest\u00a0will be accepting submissions and proposals for both sessions starting Tuesday, October 6. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sxsw-canceled-city-austin-due-coronavirus\/\">Since the event was canceled<\/a> in March, organizers are working to get the previous presenters and artists back on board for the newly online festival. However, among other things left to be reorganized, there\u2019s no word on the SXSW Gaming Expo in yesterday&#8217;s announcement post.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, South by Southwest&#8217;s\u00a0Gaming Expo has hosted a\u00a0gaming award show as part of its\u00a0Interactive branch, during which\u00a0titles competed for Game of the Year recognition\u00a0among other awards. The SXSW Gaming Expo even had major figures\u00a0from gaming industry veterans show up, some of whom like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/reggie-fils-aime-sxsw-keynote-2020\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reggie Fils-Aime were planning to make an appearance this year<\/a>. With COVID-19 forcing the festival to close, SXSW had to make many changes to their plans, which included canceling\u00a0these appearances and\u00a0announcing the gaming award winners online.<\/p>\n<p>It is possible the organizers could do the same for SXSW Online by <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/uncharted-4-game-of-the-year-sxsw\/\">streaming\u00a0the gaming awards<\/a>, having a panel dedicated to gaming, or any number of other options.
