Twitch has been dominated recently by some indie titles lately, and seemingly everyone has been queuing\u00a0to sleuth their way through Innersloth’s hit, Among Us<\/em>. Due to the game’s success, Innersloth planned to develop a sequel, but today the development team has decided to cancel Among Us 2<\/a><\/em>\u00a0and shift its focus back to the first game.<\/p>\n

In a blog post on Innersloth’s Itch.io page, the development team laid out its plans for Among Us<\/a><\/em> going forward, after canceling the recently announced Among Us 2<\/em>. Innersloth mentions that the initial decision to pursue a sequel was due to Among Us’<\/em> codebase being\u00a0outdated, which would prove difficult to work with.\u00a0Among Us 1<\/em> is being played by over a million players at a time<\/a>, so Innersloth is said to be putting its focus on Among Us 1 instead of developing a sequel.<\/p>\n

Innersloth had already announced new additions and features that would have been coming to Among Us 2,<\/em> but since the game has been canceled, the team has committed to adding those new\u00a0features to Among Us 1<\/em>.\u00a0Among Us 2<\/em> was going to add several fan-requested features<\/a> including a higher player count and new roles for players, but now that will be worked into the first game. Innersloth mentions that this may end up being a more difficult choice which will take reworking several parts of the game’s core code.<\/p>\n

The blog post\u00a0also details several features that will be making their way to Among Us<\/em> in the future. Innersloth has mentioned the team is working on the game’s server issues, as the servers are being hammered with tons of players jumping into Among Us<\/em> constantly. Also, Innersloth is looking to add colorblind support, a friend and account system, plus a new stage that has just entered early development.<\/p>\n

For the uninitiated, Among Us<\/em> is an imposter-type game<\/a> similar to Werewolf<\/em> styled games where, out of a group of players, two are marked as imposters tasked with killing other crewmates. Crewmates must deduce who is responsible for killing their allies and gain the support of survivors to vote out potential imposters. Videos featuring groups of friends playing together have began to go viral, leading to an unexpected amount of a success for the game.<\/p>\n

Among Us<\/em> has been a hit with Twitch streamers as the top channels on the platform are playing together and pulling in massive viewer counts. The success of the game through streaming channels has led to over 41 million mobile downloads for Among Us<\/em><\/a> this month, which is up from roughly 18 million downloads throughout the month of August. Before the rise in popularity, Among Us<\/em> was seeing numbers in the 1 million range for mobile downloads.<\/p>\n
