Fans immediately began to speculate about what the roughly 7.5 billion-dollar deal could mean for the future of gaming, with it seeming ever-more likely that upcoming blockbusters\u00a0like\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/elder-scrolls-6-microsoft-xbox-series-x-bethesda\/\">The Elder Scrolls 6<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Starfield\u00a0<\/em>could be Xbox-exclusive offerings.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s a huge deal for a console that,\u00a0only a week ago,\u00a0had a severe exclusive problem. But exactly who does Microsoft now have under its first-party banner that can offer star-power equivalent to the likes of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/uncharted-5-nathan-drake-nolan-north\/\">Naughty Dog<\/a>, Insomniac Games, or Sony Santa Monica. Well, in truth, it has quite a few\u00a0studios on that level, with the developers now at Microsoft&#8217;s disposal having worked on some of the biggest games of the last few years. With that in mind, it&#8217;s worth taking a look over exactly which studios now reside under Microsoft following its hefty transaction with Zenimax Media.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/bethesda-games-list-franchises-xbox-owns\/\">All the Bethesda Video Game Franchises Xbox Now Owns<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/doom-eternal-4.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Easily one of the biggest names on the shooter market, id Software has a history of developing some of the most essential\u00a0releases in the history of the medium. Most avid video game fans will likely have heard of the studio due to the\u00a0likes of\u00a0<em>Doom, Wolfenstein, <\/em>or<em> Quake,\u00a0<\/em>with the trifecta of classic shooters going down as some of the best of all time. While\u00a0<em>Quake\u00a0<\/em>has eventually begun to phase out of the mainstream gaming scene\u00a0&#8211; and id entrusted\u00a0<em>Wolfenstein\u00a0<\/em>with MachineGames\u00a0&#8211; the company has been killing it recently with the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/doom-eternal-ancient-gods-dlc-standalone-purchase\/\">Doom<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>franchise,\u00a0which has benefitted from two critically and\u00a0commercially acclaimed mainline releases in recent years.<\/p>\n<p><em>Doom<\/em>&#8216;s big return in 2016 brought the series back to life in style, resurrecting the Doom Slayer and his\u00a0arsenal of deadly weaponry\u00a0with a more\u00a0fast-paced, arcadey adventure.\u00a0The studio followed that up with this year&#8217;s\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/doom-eternal-review\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Doom Eternal<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>which succeeded in deepening\u00a0<em>Doom 2016&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>rewarding gameplay and adding more challenging foes\u00a0for players to battle. id is an incredibly valuable developer for Xbox to have under its banner, especially with the company doing some of its best work in years right now with the <em>Doom<\/em> IP. It&#8217;ll be interesting to see whether\u00a0the franchise<em>\u00a0<\/em>becomes a staple of the Xbox exclusive line-up in the years to come, with <em>Doom<\/em>\u00a0easily standing as a name big enough to rival some of Sony&#8217;s\u00a0most notable releases.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/wolfenstein-the-old-blood.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Taking over the\u00a0<em>Wolfenstein\u00a0<\/em>series and releasing\u00a0<em>New Order\u00a0<\/em>back in 2014, Machine Games has since transformed the once-dormant franchise into one of the most\u00a0must-play\u00a0action\u00a0staples\u00a0of the current generation. With little hype or fanfare, the team dropped an outstanding shooter in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/10-best-video-game-reboots-925\/\"><em>Wolfenstein: New Order<\/em><\/a>, using the game&#8217;s unique setting and retro roots to make a fluid\u00a0action game\u00a0with a ton of style. Better yet, It followed the\u00a0reboot up with an expansion titled\u00a0<em>Old Blood<\/em>\u00a0later that year,<em>\u00a0<\/em>with the supremely fun DLC focusing on\u00a0the more paranormal and wacky tone of earlier\u00a0<em>Wolfenstein\u00a0<\/em>games.<\/p>\n<p>A fully-fledged sequel called\u00a0<em>Wolfenstein: New Colossus\u00a0<\/em>followed it up in 2017 while\u00a0its more polarizing co-op expansion\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/wolfenstein-2-youngblood-review\/\">Wolfenstein: Youngblood<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>hit shelves in 2019. Over the course of six years, Machine Games has shown that it can create huge\u00a0experiences with fun-focused gameplay and engaging storytelling,\u00a0easily proving that it&#8217;ll be a great asset to Microsoft. Whether that&#8217;s through making the inevitable threequel\u00a0in its new line of\u00a0<em>Wolfenstein\u00a0<\/em>reboots\u00a0or perhaps moving on to a fresh IP entirely, MachineGames is one of the brightest names in shooters right now and one Microsoft is lucky to\u00a0own.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/evil-within-2.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Headed by the legendary Shinji Mikami of\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/resident-evil-8-30-minute-showcase-tgs-2020\/\">Resident Evil<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>fame, Tango Gameworks offers an interesting prospect to Microsoft. While most of its AAA studios dabble heavily in shooters, racing games, and RPGs, Tango Gameworks specializes largely in the horror genre. The studio brought\u00a0<em>The Evil Within\u00a0<\/em>to screens back in 2014, making a big impact with\u00a0Mikami fans who wanted to see his signature horror style brandished by a fresh franchise. It did so well that a sequel followed suit in 2017, with many agreeing it built well on its predecessor and stood as one of the best horror experiences of the generation.<\/p>\n<p>The team is currently hard at work on the upcoming\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ghostwire-tokyo-gameplay-pet-dog\/\">Ghostwire Tokyo<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>and although Mikami\u00a0isn&#8217;t in the director&#8217;s chair\u00a0for the exciting new project, it looks to be just as experimental and interesting as his best work. Looking at both Sony and Microsoft, there is a big void in both company&#8217;s\u00a0first-party line-up for some exceptional AAA horror titles, so Xbox would be wise to utilize the major star power behind\u00a0Tango Gameworks to make something special. Mikami is a huge name after all, and it seems wise for the company to work with him on a big project that makes Xbox the home for passionate horror enthusiasts.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/A8C793F5-514A-4C0A-BEBB-C18C4E2485F2.jpeg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Ever since the company released\u00a0<em>Dishonored\u00a0<\/em>back in 2012, Arkane Studios has been nigh unstoppable when it comes to putting out exceptional games. It garnered wide acclaim for\u00a0its seminal supernatural assassination adventure, with many celebrating\u00a0the studio&#8217;s ability to craft truly immersive worlds and fill them with compelling lore.\u00a0The acclaim only grew with the release of\u00a0<em>Dishonored 2\u00a0<\/em>back in 2016, with the\u00a0pair of games quickly\u00a0amassing a giant fan base.\u00a0Arkane didn&#8217;t rest on its laurels though, moving on to develop the reboot of sci-fi shooter\u00a0<em>Prey<\/em>\u00a0in 2017. The studio is now close to releasing yet another game in early 2020, with\u00a0Arkane putting the finishing touches on its time-bending stealth-action\u00a0title\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/deathloop-release-date-delay-2021\/\">Deathloop<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If there&#8217;s any studio that could offer exciting, unique, and wholly original exclusives for Xbox players, it&#8217;s Arkane Studios, with the team frequently proving\u00a0it has an unparalleled ability to build\u00a0engaging worlds traversable through\u00a0solid gameplay. Whether the team will <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/dishonored-series-new-game-arkane-studios\/\">return to the\u00a0<em>Dishonored\u00a0<\/em>series<\/a> on Xbox or continue its mission\u00a0to tell new stories through every outing, it&#8217;s clear Microsoft looks to gain a lot from its partnership with\u00a0the talented studio. Hopefully, it&#8217;ll lead to some high-caliber releases in the years to come.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/elder-scrolls-online-free-to-play.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Chances are fans will know the name ZeniMax Online because of one\u00a0game in particular:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/the-elder-scrolls-online-ps4-microsoft-buy-bethesda\/\">The Elder Scrolls Online<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>The incredibly popular MMO is easily one of the most lucrative parts of Bethesda&#8217;s gaming empire, boasting millions of players and tons of meaningful expansions over its roughly six years on the market. In that time, players have journeyed\u00a0to several major locations from\u00a0<em>The Elder Scrolls\u00a0<\/em>universe, including Morrowind, Summerset, and Elsweyr. There&#8217;s no denying such a huge multiplayer property will mean a lot to Microsoft, especially as it\u00a0could introduce more players to the game and its DLC when combined with Xbox Game Pass.<\/p>\n<p>Zenimax Online might not seem like a name that can pack the same star power as ID Software, Arkane Studios, or Bethesda Game Studios, but it&#8217;s undeniably a solid pillar that Xbox can build on now its partnered with Bethesda.\u00a0Seeing as the console didn&#8217;t have a major MMO under its banner prior to the acquisition, it&#8217;ll be interesting to see\u00a0what Xbox will do with\u00a0<em>The Elder Scrolls Online\u00a0<\/em>in the years to come.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/prey-1.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Although they&#8217;re currently the\u00a0lesser-known of Bethesda&#8217;s studios, both Alpha Dog and Roundhouse Studios present a lot of great opportunities for Microsoft. The former specializes in mobile games, with the team dropping raiding-strategy game\u00a0<em>Monstrocity: Rampage\u00a0<\/em>somewhat recently and previously\u00a0developing an action RPG called\u00a0<em>Wraithborne.\u00a0<\/em>It&#8217;s always good to have studios working on games for a wide variety of audiences, and mobile titles are undeniably a huge part of that.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/bethesda-obsidian-fallout-new-vegas-controversy-explained\/\">The Bethesda-Obsidian Fallout: New Vegas Controversy Explained<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Roundhouse Studios is the more mysterious of the pair.\u00a0It was formed late last year, with the team devised of members of the ill-fated Human Head Studios which developed the original\u00a0<em>Prey\u00a0<\/em>back in 2006. The team was also slated to work on the eagerly-awaited\u00a0<em>Prey 2\u00a0<\/em>before the bounty-hunter action game was canceled and went on to develop the critically panned\u00a0<em>The Quiet Man.\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/prey-dev-closes-reopens-as-a-new-bethesda-studio\/\">The team eventually went under but was brought back as Roundhouse Studios<\/a>\u00a0by Bethesda and put to work on a new project. Hopefully, this mysterious game will be able to match the creativity of the first\u00a0<em>Prey,\u00a0<\/em>which garnered a cult following after its release.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/skyrim.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>The developer of\u00a0<em>The Elder Scrolls, Fallout,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Starfield,\u00a0<\/em>Bethesda Game Studios might just be the biggest name currently associated with the Xbox brand. The studio has delivered some of the most defining RPGs of the last two decades, becoming synonymous with audiences for its large worlds filled with quests to complete, enemies to slay and adventures to be had. From\u00a0<em>Morrowind\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Oblivion\u00a0<\/em>to\u00a0<em>Fallout 3\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/time-bethesda-step-away-skyrim-fallout-76-engine\/\">Skyrim<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>there are few video game enthusiasts who haven&#8217;t been fully sucked into a Bethesda Game Studios experience, making these\u00a0RPGs\u00a0the stuff of legend.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead, Microsoft is going to want to take full advantage of the studio&#8217;s vast line-up of incredible franchises. Whether that means making the team&#8217;s long-awaited release of new IP\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sony-wanted-starfield-ps5-timed-exclusive\/\">Starfield<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>into an exclusive experience or maybe even doing the same with the massively-hyped\u00a0<em>Elder Scrolls 6,<\/em>\u00a0it seems wise to imagine the studio will be a big part of Xbox&#8217;s strategy going forward<em>. <\/em>The console manufacturer\u00a0would also be wise to use the studio&#8217;s incredible properties to license some long-awaited, fan-requested games, including a potential\u00a0<em>Fallout: New Vegas\u00a0<\/em>sequel from Obsidian.
