Now,\u00a0modders have brought\u00a0the iconic <strong><em>Grand Theft Auto\u00a03\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>to the Switch,\u00a0making it\u00a0the\u00a0first time that the game is (unofficially) playable on an Nintendo system.<\/p>\n<p><em>Grand Theft Auto 3<\/em>\u00a0holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers. While it was <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/open-world-games-released-before-grand-theft-auto-3\/\">not the first-open world game<\/a>, it was one of the most popular early open-world games, and for many players it was\u00a0their first experience with the now ubiquitous genre. It would go on to\u00a0codify a lot of features that would become standard in the genre, setting the stage for wildly popular sequels, like\u00a0<em>Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Grand Theft Auto 5<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/gta-5-ps5-free-upgrade\/\">Rumor: GTA 5 PS4 Players Will Get Free Upgrade to PS5 Version<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The game was controversial\u00a0when it was first\u00a0released due its graphic portray of both sex and violence.\u00a0Just last year, almost 20 years after the game was released,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/grand-theft-auto-iii-gets-a-new-rating-in-australia\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>GTA 3<\/em>\u00a0was given an updated rating in Australia<\/a>, to better reflect the game&#8217;s sexual content. Upon release,\u00a0<em>GTA 3\u00a0<\/em>was not available\u00a0on any Nintendo systems, most\u00a0likely\u00a0due to a mix of publishing contracts and the game&#8217;s less than family friendly image. While later GTA games were released on Nintendo systems, there&#8217;s never been a way to play <em>GTA 3<\/em>\u00a0on the Switch, until now.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/K4PnG6XiZb0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>One industrious YouTube going by the name of Eradicatinglove has uploaded a guide, showing how to port the game to the Switch.\u00a0Without getting lost in the weeds, the port\u00a0requires both an emulator and ZIP file of the game that can be found online. From his video, it looks like the ported version is not fully stable, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/grand-theft-auto-online-account-reset-garage-money-glitch-rockstar\/\">there are a number of glitches<\/a>\u00a0that can occur. Love does get the game to run smoothly, and is able to show off the games glorious, early 2000&#8217;s era graphics.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that this not an official port, and\u00a0Rockstar is in no way involved with bringing the game to the Switch. Porting this game is a form of piracy, and while its debatable if <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/piracy-affect-video-game-sales-report\/\">piracy actually affects video game sales<\/a>,\u00a0it is certainly not something to be taken lightly.
