Fans of the Korean idol\u00a0band\u00a0will want to check out the mobile version of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/playerunknowns-battlegrounds\/\"><em>PUBG<\/em><\/a>\u00a0for a special sneak peek of new music.<\/p>\n<p>While its popularity\u00a0was quickly eclipsed by the explosive phenomenon that is <em>Fortnite<\/em>,\u00a0<em>PUBG\u00a0<\/em>nails <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/battle-royale-games-fortnite-fall-guys-apex-warzone-good\/\">the ingredients that make for a stellar battle royale shooter<\/a>, pitting hordes of players against each other\u00a0in massive, last-man standing deathmatches. At the seemingly opposite end of the entertainment spectrum, YG Entertainment&#8217;s girl group, Blackpink, is the highest charting female K-pop group on Billboard&#8217;s Hot 100, reaching new heights with their 2020 single &#8220;Ice Cream.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pubg-adding-ranked-solo-game-mode\/\">PUBG Adding Fan-Requested Game Mode<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This unlikely duo has paired to use\u00a0<em>PUBG<\/em>\u00a0<em>Mobile<\/em> as a platform to preview tracks from\u00a0Blackpink&#8217;s forthcoming album,\u00a0<em>In Your Area<\/em>. Players are now able to sample songs from the album in\u00a0<em>PUBG Mobile<\/em>&#8216;s lobbies which boast a special, Blackpink visual theme.\u00a0Starting in\u00a0early October, there will also be specially\u00a0themed items and prizes up for grabs. The promotion is slated to last until early November, and comes hot on the heels of the release of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pubg-arena-mode\/\"><em>PUBG&#8217;<\/em>s new Arena Mode<\/a>, emphasizing squad-based combat.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PUBGMOBILE\/status\/1309000870177255424\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>PUBG<\/em>&#8216;s predominantly male core demographic does not seem like\u00a0it would share\u00a0an extensive overlap with Korea&#8217;s premiere, K-pop girl group, and reactions from fans of both groups have largely ranged from confused to amused on Twitter.\u00a0The unique\u00a0cross-promotional move seems to be following a page from <em>Fortnite<\/em>&#8216;s playbook, as\u00a0the rival battle royale title\u00a0has hosted several in-game musical performances, including <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/fortnite-bts-music-video-choreography-concert-party-royale\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a video from K-pop supergroup, BTS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In many respects, the collaboration&#8217;s potential gains outweigh its risks.\u00a0The internet adores disparate\u00a0mash-ups of\u00a0cute and brutal, as demonstrated by the\u00a0excess of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/doom-animal-crossing-memes-reddit\/\"><em>Animal Crossing<\/em>\u00a0and<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>DOOM\u00a0<\/em>crossover memes<\/a> that went viral this summer. It is also a promotion that stands to maximize\u00a0Blackpink&#8217;s exposure to a group that may be unfamiliar with their music, just ahead of their album launch and upcoming Netflix documentary.<\/p>\n<p>For <em>PUBG<\/em>&#8216;s part, the promotion may funnel eager K-pop fans to check out a game they would normally overlook, and helps promote the newly released arena mode. It may also help the game garner some positive international press after the Indian government banned\u00a0<em>PUBG Mobile<\/em> from devices in that country, leading <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pubg-india-tencent-china\/\">PUBG Corporation to pull out of its partnership with the Chinese tech conglomerate, Tencent<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Even if the promotion flops, the downsides are relatively minor for both the band and the game.\u00a0Despite that pragmatism,\u00a0one cannot help but wonder if both parties could have found more\u00a0dance partners with more obvious mutual appeal.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>PlayerUnknown&#8217;s Battlegrounds<\/strong><\/em> is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
