As more information appears regarding <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-16-ps5-timed-exclusive-announcement-trailer\/\">the confirmed PlayStation 5 timed exclusive<\/a>, one Twitter user may have uncovered an interesting detail. If proven true, it may finally fulfill a demand fans have had for many years.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter user ThisIsXel noticed a\u00a0very important tidbit of information in an email sent out by the European branch of Square Enix. The promotional email didn&#8217;t have any kind of new\u00a0info\u00a0about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/final-fantasy\/\"><em>Final Fantasy 16<\/em><\/a>, but at the very bottom it does show an age rating. While the reveal trailer for <em>Final Fantasy 16<\/em> opened with a rating pending warning noting that the footage &#8220;may contain content inappropriate for children,&#8221; it seems that the European ratings board has made a provisional decision.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-7-remake-ff16-expectations\/\">Final Fantasy 7 Remake Sets High Expectations for FF16<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Based on the email, it seems <em>Final Fantasy 16<\/em> will be rated as &#8220;18&#8221; by Pan European Game Information (Pegi). It is the highest possible age rating according to Pegi metrics meaning that <em>Final Fantasy<\/em> fans can finally expect a main-line &#8220;Mature&#8221; title. While the Adults Only rating is noted as the highest possible under ESRB standards, an &#8220;18&#8221; rating by Pegi translates to a &#8220;Mature&#8221; in the majority of instances. The rating itself is provisional however, meaning that it may just be knocked down to a &#8220;16&#8221; or &#8220;Teen&#8221; rating before release.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ThisIsXel\/status\/1310010012329271296\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Based on the responses on both Reddit and Twitter, it seems fans are extremely happy with the possible decision for <em>Final Fantasy 16<\/em> to go into more adult territory. While the main-line <em>Final Fantasy<\/em> franchise has always dealt with adult themes, entries will often hold back on both sexual and violent content. This has often been a measure to maximize the possible audience so younger gamers would not be locked out of buying a <em>Final Fantasy<\/em> title.<\/p>\n<p>Square Enix has previously admitted to actively <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-7-remake-changes-m-rating\/\">removing content in <em>Final Fantasy 7: Remake<\/em> to avoid the mature rating<\/a>, something that is often associated with some of the biggest games in the industry. During a Famitsu interview, <em>Final Fantasy 7: Remake<\/em> director Tetsuya Nomura and Producer Yoshinori Kitase spoke about how the title was altered during development to get the &#8220;Teen&#8221; rating.<\/p>\n<p>While this news is still not 100 percent confirmed, it seems that <em>Final Fantasy 16<\/em> isn&#8217;t going to be as concerned with age ratings as the team of <em>Final Fantasy 7: Remake<\/em> was. Even from the small glimpses during the reveal trailer, there already seems to be more blood than the usual <em>Final Fantasy<\/em>.
