Still, some fans won&#8217;t forget the homophobic comments about Ellie and a certain character death that led to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/the-last-of-us-2-review-bomb-metacritic\/\"><em>TLOU2<\/em> review bombing on Metacritic<\/a>, the death threats to Abby&#8217;s VA, and the criticisms over Abby&#8217;s body type. Although\u00a0<em>The Last of Us 2<\/em> was critically lauded and appreciated by a lot of fans, the controversy was intense.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/the-last-of-us-2\/\">The Last of Us 2<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>fans recently celebrated The Last of Us Day, formerly known as Outbreak Day before being changed due to the current global pandemic. Naughty Dog released a free PS4 theme, figurines of\u00a0Joel and Ellie, a cosplay guide, and more to celebrate both the recently-released\u00a0<em>TLOU2<\/em> and the original game, which was released about seven years ago. Naughty Dog&#8217;s VP and <em>The Last of Us 2<\/em>&#8216;s head writer, Neil Druckmann, took to Twitter the day after The Last of Us Day to voice his thoughts about certain\u00a0<em>TLOU2<\/em> critics.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/last-us-2-multiplayer-release-when\/\">The Last of Us 2 Multiplayer Will Be &#8216;Worth the Wait&#8217;<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Twitter user @KharloKong posed an open question in a tweet in the form of an image of a screenshot from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/25-things-wrong-tangled-choose-ignore\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">popular Disney movie <em>Tangled<\/em><\/a>, where one character voices his opinion during a musical number and his thoughts are so unpopular that over a dozen people point swords at his throat. The Twitter user accompanied the image with text that asked what video games opinion drew that sort of reaction from certain people, with the implication clear due to\u00a0<em>Tangled<\/em>&#8216;s widespread popularity.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/neil_druckmann\/status\/1310360785353277440\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Druckmann&#8217;s response to the original tweet also requires basic knowledge of pop culture and of the entire\u00a0<em>The Last of Us 2<\/em> controversy, but\u00a0one huge\u00a0implication is clear from the phrase &#8220;That female characters can be muscular?&#8221; and an image of Joel putting his head in his hands. The implication is clearly that Druckmann believes <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/last-of-us-2-abby-muscles-workout\/\">Abby&#8217;s muscular physique is very unpopular<\/a>, but that he stands by the opinion despite the negative backlash, and his use of Joel&#8217;s facepalm conveys his disappointment in fans&#8217; vitriol.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, many people have pointed out that in a post-apocalyptic world, it would make sense for characters to be physically built, especially aggressive people like Abby, and that there is no similar backlash against extremely muscular male characters in video games.
