A third version of the game would typically release a year following the base game releases, but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-sword-shield-expansion-pass-isle-armor-crown-tundra-fix\/\"><em>Pokemon Sword<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Shield<\/em> have expansions<\/a> instead.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ayIZaCMKpYE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The news followed the announcement of the release date for the second DLC for both <em>Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield<\/em> titled\u00a0The Crown Tundra. The DLC takes trainers to a new winter setting featuring a fresh story and more Pokemon to catch along with some addition content. The Crown Tundra will include the ability to catch every <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-sword-shield-crown-tundra-release-date-pokedex-legendary-pokemon\/\">Legendary Pokemon in the franchise<\/a>\u00a0as well as a new co-op adventure featuring Dynamax Pokemon and more Gigantamax battles.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Nintendo has recently reclaimed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/pokemon-heartgold-soulsilver-ports-nintendo-switch\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">trademark for <em>Pokemon HearthGold and Pokemon SoulSilver<\/em><\/a>, leading some to believe that ports of both games may be heading to the Nintendo Switch. While retaining a trademark is nothing new, especially in the game industry, it&#8217;s worth noting that 2021 will mark the 25th anniversary of the franchise. Game Freak has already released new versions of <em>Pokemon Red and Blue<\/em> with <em>Pokemon Let&#8217;s Go Pikachu<\/em> and<em> Pokemon Let&#8217;s Go Eevee<\/em> in 2018, so a re-release of the original games seems unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-25th-anniversary-rumors-sword-shield-dlc-diamond-pearl-gold-silver-lets-go-2021\/\">25th anniversary <em>Pokemon<\/em> rumors<\/a> don&#8217;t stop there. A third expansion for <em>Pokemon Sword and Shield<\/em> has been heavily rumored, featuring a whole new area to explore as well as new game mechanics. Other rumors suggest\u00a0<em>Pokemon Diamond and Pearl<\/em>\u00a0remakes may be on the way following suit from the <em>Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire<\/em> remakes on the 3DS.
