While launch day is still a long time away\u2014even by Blizzard&#8217;s\u00a0own generous, internal standards\u2014it&#8217;s already clear that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/diablo-4\/\"><em>Diablo 4<\/em><\/a>&#8216;s skill system\u00a0is shaping up to be very different\u00a0from its predecessor&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p><em>Diablo 3<\/em> released for PC over eight years ago and franchise fans are eager for a fresh campaign against the forces of hell.<em>\u00a0Diablo 4<\/em>\u00a0is making several changes to the long-running action RPG&#8217;s standard\u00a0demon-slaying formula, most notably, the inclusion of open-world exploration.\u00a0Other changes\u00a0that have been revealed so far include the ability for up to eight players to join together, and the\u00a0elimination of loading screens, which may be <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/diablo-4-dungeons-loading-times\/\"><em>Diablo 4<\/em>&#8216;s most important new feature<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/diablo-4-ashava-the-pestilent-gameplay-footage-multiplayer-co-op\/\">Diablo 4 Reveals 8-Player World Boss Gameplay<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The most recent update focused on the game&#8217;s mechanics and skill trees. As revealed in previous updates, every\u00a0<em>Diablo 4<\/em> class will have a distinguishing mechanic, like the barbarian&#8217;s arsenal\u00a0system, allowing players to easily switch between weapons. The character&#8217;s skills will be modified by a two-fold skill tree comprised of roots and branches. Players modify and gain active abilities by spending points in the branches, which in turn unlocks points that can be spent on the roots for passive abilities.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Diablo\/status\/1311002832703635457\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The developers also noted that players will not be able to acquire every skill in a single playthrough, and may in fact require multiple characters to fully explore a single class. This adds tremendous weight to every build decision. This system contributes re-playability and adds depth to\u00a0every class, at the potential expense of frustrating completionists and aspiring jacks-of-all-trades.\u00a0Ultimately, more interesting builds seem like a worthy trade-off, and hopefully,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/diablo-4-new-classes-hellfire-bard\/\">Blizzard gets creative with <em>Diablo 4<\/em>&#8216;s classes<\/a>\u00a0to maximize the system&#8217;s potential.<\/p>\n<p>Three of five starting classes have been revealed for the game, and so far <em>Diablo 4<\/em>\u00a0is holding fast to the series&#8217; roots.\u00a0Variants of the\u00a0sorcerer, barbarian, and druid classes have featured in earlier titles and while they each have their own satisfying appeal, the tropes are starting to show their age. It would be refreshing to see the\u00a0weighty character-building system fueling <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/diablo-4-new-classes-demonic\/\">a completely new kind of character.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is worth acknowledging, the conservative class\u00a0reveals may be an intentional play on Blizzard&#8217;s part.\u00a0With the announcement of open world play and large battle parties, there\u00a0is some concern from fans that\u00a0<em>Diablo 4\u00a0<\/em>will stray too far from its core identity, and essentially become<em>\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/diablo-4-open-world-details\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a darker shade of\u00a0<em>World of Warcraft<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0But Blizzard&#8217;s focus on a system that seems to prioritize season-by-season commitment and experimentation should help distinguish the title from a traditional MMORPG.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Diablo 4\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>is currently in development.
