While obviously the zombies aren&#8217;t real and it&#8217;s only virtual reality, VR raises a lot of player&#8217;s adrenaline levels and gets them pumped up to fight or take action. The question is, is\u00a0<em>The Walking Dead: Onslaught\u00a0<\/em>a\u00a0game players want to turn to for that adrenaline rush, or is it not worth the buy? Critics weigh-in to help would-be buyers decide.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/twd-onslaught-zombies.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/walking-dead-onslaught-review\/\">Game Rant<\/a> (Dalton Cooper)<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Pacing issues aside, The Walking Dead: Onslaught is a solid VR experience that is a great option for anyone looking for some mindless, zombie-killing fun.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Score:\u00a03.5\/5<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/the-walking-dead-onslaught-review\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IGN<\/a> (Gabriel Moss)<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The Walking Dead: Onslaught has all the trappings of a pretty good hack\u2019n\u2019slash zombie game, but it\u2019s not quite up to par in terms of interesting VR interactions and its flavorless story mode clocks in at a measly five hours. It\u2019s great to see performances from Norman Reedus and the rest from this perspective, but its use of the popular TV show characters and environments is lacking because it never goes anywhere or shows us anything we haven\u2019t already seen. That makes it much harder to recommend for anything other than fan service alone.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Score: 6\/10<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vrfocus.com\/2020\/09\/review-the-walking-dead-onslaught\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VRFocus<\/a>\u00a0(Peter Graham)<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The studio has continued its high production values with a great looking VR game, a superb soundtrack and of course the official affiliation to entice fans. Yet there are clearly deficiencies in the gameplay such as the most dangerous knife ever created to the overall lack of depth.\u00a0The Walking Dead Onslaught\u00a0isn\u2019t a bad videogame, it just doesn\u2019t do anything special.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Score: 3\/5<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/reviews\/ps4\/walking_dead_onslaught\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PushSquare<\/a> (Henry Stockdale)<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;There are several issues though and its biggest one regards movement, which offers three options: teleportation, swinging the PlayStation Move controller, or a smooth option reliant on button pressing. None of them click perfectly and adding to this, character models look a bit rough. If you can get past these flaws, Onslaught is ultimately enjoyable, bringing good combat and rebuilding Alexandria is quite fun. If you\u2019re a fan of the TV series, this is worth a look.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Score: 6\/10<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadtovr.com\/the-walking-dead-onslaught-review\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Road to VR<\/a> (Scott Hayden)<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The Walking Dead Onslaught unfortunately suffers from a bad case of being overstuffed with filler, making you grind through inconsequential missions to move forward in the story. Although there&#8217;s some fun to be had mowing down zombies and hunting for useful items in the wasteland for a while, after the first few hours it begins to feel like a chore, and not an exploration of the world envisioned in the TV series.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Score: 4\/10<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/uploadvr.com\/the-walking-dead-onslaught-review\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UploadVR<\/a> (David Jagneaux)<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I hate to say it, but The Walking Dead: Saints &amp; Sinners is just a much better example of how to create an immersive VR world, much better use of the source material, and much better game in general.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Score: 2\/5<\/p>\n<p>None of the critics so far seem to hate this game enough to recommend avoid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/the-walking-dead-onslaught-chilling-vr-experience-play-as-rick-daryl-main-characters\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">playing <em>The Walking Dead: Onslaught<\/em><\/a> entirely, but it doesn&#8217;t look like it&#8217;s going to be going down in VR game history as a fan-favorite. Of course, not every game has to wow its audiences in order to be worth buying, but for many people, $30 is just not worth it for a few hours of mediocre entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>If VR isn&#8217;t landing with\u00a0<em>The Walking Dead<\/em> (although\u00a0<em>Saints &amp; Sinners<\/em> was generally received much better), then maybe it&#8217;s a good thing the franchise is doing a <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/magic-the-gathering-the-walking-dead-secret-lair-cards\/\">crossover with <em>Magic: The Gathering<\/em><\/a>.
