The inherent safety risks have led to most existing parks closing down and the opening of new ones being <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/universal-studios-super-nintendo-world-orlando-delayed\/\">delayed indefinitely, as Universal Studios&#8217; Super Nintendo World<\/a>\u00a0has. As a result of this, Disney has announced that it\u2019s making huge reductions in its Parks, Experiences, &amp; Products division, which will result in 28,000 employees being laid off.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement shared on Twitter today, Parks chairman Josh D\u2019Amaro touched upon the factors behind this move. His statement mainly centers on the situation with Disney\u2019s California-based parks, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. These have been closed since March, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/disneyland-california-coronavirus-reopening-delayed\/\">California state guidelines have delayed Disneyland from reopening<\/a> in any capacity, unlike Disney World and the company\u2019s other Florida-based parks.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nbc-layoffs-streaming-coronavirus-pandemic\/\">NBC Begins Layoffs Due to Streaming Plans and Coronavirus Pandemic<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>With the state government\u2019s \u201cunwillingness to lift restrictions that would allow Disneyland to reopen,\u201d D\u2019Amaro said <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/disney\/\">Disney<\/a> has begun the process of cutting the Parks divisions\u2019 workforce across all levels. Of the 28,000 employees being laid off, 67% are part-time workers. D\u2019Amaro went on to say that the company is discussing the layoffs with the impacted employees, as well as the unions representing a number of them. He didn\u2019t go into detail here, but stated that one thing being discussed is possible opportunities for reemployment once the pandemic is over.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DisneyParksNews\/status\/1311044474793947137\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While it remains to be seen if theme parks in California will reopen anytime soon, there are people still hoping to be able to draw crowds in the state this year. This week, news broke that <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/la-comic-con-in-person-event-december-2020\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LA Comic Con may still host an in-person event in December<\/a>, despite many concerns that\u00a0COVID-19 won&#8217;t be gone\u00a0before then.
