As such, some consoles go largely unused, enough so that Nintendo is issuing a support\u00a0announcement for those who don&#8217;t use the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nintendo-switch-wii-hardware-sales-record-august-2020-2008\/\">bestselling Switch<\/a> that often.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/switch\/\">Nintendo Switch<\/a>\u00a0has proven itself to be incredibly popular, and COVID-19\u00a0influenced\u00a0production\u00a0and increased demand (in part thanks to\u00a0<em>Animal Crossing: New Horizons&#8217;<\/em>\u00a0massive popularity) leading to a shortage\u00a0severely limiting Switch sales. Although most people who have one probably play it at least once in a while, and a large portion of players use it frequently, there are likely plenty of Switch users who don&#8217;t use it often now (or won&#8217;t in the future), and Nintendo has a message for them.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nintendo-switch-best-third-party-pro-controllers\/\">Nintendo: The 10 Best Third-Party Switch Pro Controllers<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The official customer support Twitter account for Nintendo recently published an informative tweet instructing these users what to do. While the original tweet is in Japanese, the translation tells people that the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nintendo-switch-battery-pack-charge\/\">Switch should be charged<\/a> at a minimum twice a year, or once every six months. If users don&#8217;t follow this advice, they could face a very dire consequence indeed: their Switch may be unable to be played if it goes without charge for longer than that.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nintendo_cs\/status\/1310415215570251777?ref_src=https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nintendo-switch-unused-charge-how-often\/twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1310415215570251777%7Ctwgr%5Eshare_3&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fnintendosoup.com%2Fnintendo-recommends-charging-the-switch-at-least-twice-a-year%2F%22 frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Switch has been out for over three years now, so it&#8217;s a real possibility that some Switch owners may be getting a nasty surprise when digging up their own console and finding it unplayable. Of course, if the Switch went unused for that long, the chances of it getting used again drop as time goes on, but some people put things away in storage and then ultimately give the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nintendo-switch-dated-great-features\/\">highly portable console<\/a>\u00a0out to family or charity.<\/p>\n<p>While it may be too late for some people who were unfortunately unaware of this news, this may be a saving grace for those who haven&#8217;t played their Switches in a number of months. And this information will only be more useful as the Switch ages as a console, because even in the years to come, there are always going to be people who\u00a0enjoy playing on older devices, like <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/grand-theft-auto-san-andreas-iron-man-mod\/\">modders for older games like <em>GTA: San Andreas<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Whether people own a regular Switch or a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/nintendos-animal-crossing-new-horizons-edition-switch-is-coming-back\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">special edition <em>Animal Crossing<\/em> Switch<\/a>, the console wasn&#8217;t cheap for most people and it&#8217;s worth preserving a piece of technology that valuable.
