With October around the corner,\u00a0players will be able to start downloading the set of games for the month’s Xbox Live Games with Gold. Compared to past months, there\u00a0will be\u00a0a more Halloween-themed lineup<\/a> for the service, which will\u00a0match the fall holiday.<\/p>\n

Naturally, there\u00a0are plenty of games people want on the Xbox’s Games with Gold next month<\/a>, but the slate of games revealed was selected with the season in mind. The games include the slasher-themed Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut<\/em>, the first-person Maid of Sker<\/em>, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy,\u00a0<\/em>inspired by Ancient Egypt; and Costume Quest<\/em>, which features trick-or-treat battles taking place on Halloween. Each game is free for a specific window, some starting on October 1, and others later in the month. All will be available to players with an active subscription to\u00a0Xbox Live Gold<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Subscribers with Xbox Live Gold membership\u00a0and\u00a0the Game Pass Ultimate<\/a> will have full access to all the games, but\u00a0two of these games have been released one day before the month starts.\u00a0The two games available now are\u00a0Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut<\/em> and the\u00a0original Xbox game Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Slayaway Camp<\/em>\u00a0puts players in the role of Skullface, a slasher determined to get his revenge on camp counselors of the titular campground in a comic homage\u00a0to 80’s slasher movies. Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy<\/em> is a third-person action-adventure largely inspired by Egyptian mythology where players are\u00a0the titular demi-god Sphinx and a prince-turned-mummy on a quest through ancient Egypt.<\/p>\n

Both titles are currently available\u00a0on the Microsoft Store, which players can use to claim the games. However, only Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy<\/em> appears to be free with the “Gold Exclusive,” while Slayaway Camp<\/em>\u00a0still has the regular price showing on the Microsoft Store, but can currently be claimed through the Xbox for free.\u00a0There doesn’t seem to be a specific\u00a0reason why these two games are available one\u00a0day early, but the release windows still remain the same.\u00a0September’s\u00a0Games with Gold<\/a> certainly had its\u00a0quirks, and it looks like October will have its own, starting with these two early games.<\/p>\n

It’s too soon to tell whether\u00a0this is an\u00a0error with Xbox Live<\/a> or a deliberate move from Microsoft, but it’s possible there will be a response to the situation soon.\u00a0Whatever the case, this development is certainly an odd one right before October comes around.<\/p>\n
