The new $50 Chromecast for Google TV is now available for customer purchase,\u00a0and will be supporting various streaming platforms on it, with a couple exceptions. Apple TV\u00a0Plus won’t be available on the new device, but surprisingly, Google’s new device\u00a0will not be able to support Google Stadia<\/a>,\u00a0at least for a while.<\/p>\n

The new Google Chromecast device was released today at the time of this article, and it seems to have plenty to offer new and current users. It has\u00a0a new TV-interface with\u00a0the supported\u00a0Android TV<\/a> as the foundation of its operating system, and\u00a0can utilize multiple streaming services, including Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Disney Plus<\/a>, HBO Max, and more. The new device even costs $20 less than the previous Chromecast Ultra. However, a major hiccup emerged that may prove to be an inconvenience to users;\u00a0the new Chromecast\u00a0can’t use Google Stadia Pro.<\/p>\n

As reported on The Verge,\u00a0the new Google Chromecast won’t be able to support the Google Stadia Pro for a while.\u00a0Just as Google Stadia Pro is gearing up for\u00a0October<\/a>, this information can appear discouraging, but the report proposed a different angle. The Verge\u00a0was able to gain access to the device for review and reported that Stadia didn’t come officially installed on the device, nor does it properly\u00a0work on it, either. The reviewers were able to\u00a0bypass the issue by “sideloading” Stadia from the Android App onto the device, but it only worked to a point.<\/p>\n

There could be either a technical issue between the two devices\u00a0or\u00a0a possible latency issue<\/a>,\u00a0as the new Chromecast operates on the Android TV operating system instead of the OS for the Chromecast Ultra. The various layers of operating systems may play a part in why the device can’t fully support Google Stadia at this point in time. This includes the Android TV at the base, the new Google TV interface in the middle, and the Cast at the top,\u00a0with which\u00a0you can cast videos but not games.<\/p>\n

With new games coming to Google Stadia<\/a>\u00a0for October,\u00a0this only adds\u00a0more issues for the streaming service to deal with.\u00a0However, Google told The Verge\u00a0that the company is already working\u00a0to resolve the issue, and that users and prospective buyers can expect to have the\u00a0game streaming service supported on the new Chromecast by the first half of 2021.<\/p>\n
