Blowing up over the last month and becoming one of the most popular online experiences of 2020,\u00a0Among Us\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>has had a pretty insane rags to riches story. While the title was averaging very few players earlier this year, streamers eventually discovered the game and made it an online sensation, with Among Us<\/em>\u00a0now boasting\u00a0around 60 million players<\/a>.<\/p>\n

To accommodate for that massive influx of new fans,\u00a0<\/em>InnerSloth has canceled the pre-planned sequel<\/a>\u00a0to spend more time upgrading and improving its original hit. It seems included in that planning is a brand new custom map mode, that will allow players to create their own\u00a0Among Us\u00a0<\/em>levels to play with friends.<\/p>\n

Granted, it seems the idea is currently in the very early stages, with the small team of devs outlining the difficulties of implementing the idea during an interview with TwitchGaming. According to the team, it’s something InnerSloth has talked about frequently, however, the\u00a0idea would force the team to completely redesign how it makes\u00a0Among Us<\/a>‘<\/em> maps. “We would provide the assets, so we would have to draw like walls, boxes, you know, accessories. Basically making like sim maps… that does take a lot of work,” says one of the game’s artists, Amy Liu.<\/p>\n

Speaking on what\u00a0implementing\u00a0it would mean\u00a0in terms of development,\u00a0Marcus Bromander adds “we’d have to redo how we make our maps.” The trio agrees that it’s definitely something that’s on the cards, but it will likely be some ways down the line, so\u00a0Among Us\u00a0<\/em>veterans probably shouldn’t expect to get their hands on it anytime soon.\u00a0In the meantime, the\u00a0original release will be getting a lot more support from the devs, with the team going on to claim that bringing accounts to the game and fine-tuning the servers to lower connection errors is currently the priority. With such a rampant fanbase, it’ll be interesting to see what InnerSloth\u00a0plans to do with\u00a0<\/a>Among Us<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>going forward.<\/p>\n

The rampant interest in\u00a0Among Us\u00a0<\/em>has spread far beyond just the realm of the game as well, with fans creating impressive anime kill animations\u00a0and mashups with\u00a0the\u00a0Ace Attorney\u00a0<\/em>series,\u00a0Animal Crossing,\u00a0<\/em>Red Dead Redemption 2,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Fall Guys.\u00a0<\/em>Many are likely already wondering\u00a0how\u00a0the game will\u00a0stack up against\u00a0the most-viewed Twitch games of September, with\u00a0Among Us\u00a0<\/em>ranking eleventh in August<\/a>. Its current popularity would suggest it’s going to rival\u00a0Fall Guys\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0League\u00a0<\/em>of Legends\u00a0<\/em>for one of the top spots, so\u00a0there will definitely be some competition\u00a0to see which game prevails.<\/p>\n
