Rockstar Games<\/a> has created\u00a0one of the best open-world franchises ever, and their most famous one is titled “Grand Theft Auto<\/a>.”<\/em>\u00a0While the current game is already wildly popular, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the game had a massive reputation even before its release. This is something that has caused a plethora of rumors to be leaked online, ranging from gameplay details to character-specific data.<\/p>\n

Looking back at it, how much of it was real?\u00a0It is safe to assume that the\u00a0gen PS5 version<\/a>\u00a0is something that people didn’t see coming,\u00a0but there’s plenty of things people saw coming back in 2011.\u00a0Let’s check the best of rumors that were genuinely true.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Multiple Characters<\/h2>\n

There were over a thousand different rumors about Grand Theft Auto V\u00a0<\/em> before its<\/a> release. While a lot of those rumors were still believable, one specific rumor didn’t make much sense. It was reported\u00a0by Kotaku<\/a> that a source had suggested the game to have more than one main character.<\/p>\n

This was extremely unbelievable, seeing how the older Rockstar Games mostly focused on one main character.\u00a0This is why nobody really expected that it would be the case indeed.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Cross-Generational Release<\/h2>\n

Rockstar Games’ marketing strategy with <\/a>Grand Theft Auto V\u00a0<\/em>was pretty spot-on. Their main idea was not to talk about a next-gen version of GTA V<\/a>, essentially forcing players to think that it is now or never. However, it was rumored that the game would definitely show up on PS4, Xbox One, and PC soon.<\/p>\n

This is what happened over a year later. The game came out on all the current-gen platforms. In fact, it is also set to release on PlayStation 5.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>No Main Previous Gen Character Returns<\/h2>\n

When the first trailer was released for Grand Theft Auto V<\/a>, a lot of people mistook Michael De Santa for a mid-age Tommy Vercetti. But considering the timeline\u00a0of the game, it didn’t make much sense.<\/p>\n

As people got to know the game was in Los Santos, people expected to see Carl Johnson in the game as well. However,\u00a0a few rumors at the time suggested that no main character from the old games would show up in GTA V<\/a>. This was later confirmed\u00a0by Rockstar as well.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Location Of The Game<\/h2>\n

It was as early as 2011 when some actually potent\u00a0Grand Theft Auto V\u00a0<\/em>rumors started spreading. While some of them stated that the game would set in Vice City, looking at the obvious V from GTA V<\/a>, some suggested it be set in Los Santos.<\/p>\n

It was Kotaku who first reported<\/a> that the game would be set in Los Angeles or the fictional counterpart of the location. This totally turned out to be the case when the trailer and other information was officially revealed by Rockstar later.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Customizable Guns and Cars<\/h2>\n

While GTA IV<\/em> has offered some modifications<\/a>, its successor was\u00a0built to change the whole ball game. According to a list of details leaked about GTA V<\/em><\/a>, the game was set to offer a range of cars and weapons modifications.<\/p>\n

This included adding a suppressor to the firearm and installing nitrous oxide in the cars. The whole rumor turned\u00a0out to be one of the main mechanisms of Grand Theft Auto V, as it has a deep focus on customizations, especially in online mode.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>A Lot Of Vehicles<\/h2>\n

One of the biggest aspects of any Grand Theft Auto<\/em> game is the cars. This is why when a GTA<\/em> game is revealed<\/a>, one of the first things people ask for is vehicles. Based on the source code in Max Payne 3<\/em>‘s disc, a huge list of vehicles was leaked online.<\/p>\n

This data was said to be pretty much set in stone, as it has happened before with other games such as Bully<\/em> and Red Dead Redemption<\/em>. As it turns out, the list was pretty much accurate.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Animals<\/h2>\n

One rumor about\u00a0Grand Theft Auto V<\/em> suggested that it\u00a0would have virtual breathing animals in-game. On top, it was rumored that players would be able to have pet animals such as dogs. This was\u00a0received as a fake rumor since it would’ve been pretty taxing to add so many details on the PS3\/360 hardware.<\/p>\n

On top, people were thinking it would be too complicated considering the controversial nature of killing animals and PETA. However, at the end of the day, the game did have animals. In fact, a pretty good variety of them.<\/p>\n
