Apart from being an established open-world FPS franchise<\/a> that innovates by combining the two genres, the\u00a0Far Cry<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>series also possesses some of the most compelling and moral-driving villains in gaming. This makes every\u00a0Far Cry<\/em>\u00a0a narrative journey on top of the immersive survival experience.<\/p>\n

Gameplay-wise,\u00a0Far Cry\u00a0<\/em>has made some vast changes to its core mechanics across its different titles. Also made by Ubisoft,\u00a0Far Cry 6\u00a0<\/em>may have a very similar feel to the Bolivian-set\u00a0Ghost Recon Wildlands<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>Just like\u00a0Far Cry 6,\u00a0<\/em>Wildlands\u00a0<\/em>allows players to side with guerilla rebels who make use with what little resources they have to wage an uprising against the heavily armed drug cartel. Wildlands<\/em>, like other games following the Ubisoft formula, also allows players to clear outposts and complete various side quests to liberate the different provinces across the map<\/a>.<\/p>\n

To top it off,\u00a0Wildlands\u00a0<\/em>also possesses a complete character customization option from gender selection to tailoring his\/her looks; just like how\u00a0Far Cry 6\u00a0<\/em>teases to be. Gameplay, narrative, and experience-wise,\u00a0Wildlands\u00a0<\/em>is an amazing game to get a feel for what\u00a0Far Cry 6\u00a0<\/em>is shaping up to be.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Call Of Duty: Black Ops<\/h2>\n

The first game in the\u00a0Black Ops<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>lineup is a classic story-driven FPS<\/a> where missions take place in rural and barren maps. This action-packed game, though it may not be of the open-world genre, possesses the fast-paced gameplay of most\u00a0Far Cry\u00a0<\/em>games.<\/p>\n

An iconic mission in Black Ops<\/em>\u00a0is where players ride a high-powered motorcycle with Resnov in an epic conclusion to the Vorkuta prison escape; the same rush one gets when mowing down enemies with a vehicle in\u00a0Far Cry\u00a0<\/em>games. At the climax of\u00a0Black Ops, <\/em>the players lay siege against a ship headed to Cuba. Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro is also mentioned in the game, giving\u00a0Black Ops\u00a0<\/em>some heavy uprising tones.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Rust<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Rust<\/em><\/a> is a first-person survival<\/a> game where players start off with nothing. Not even clothes. In\u00a0Rust,\u00a0<\/em>players loot stuff and scraps they find in the world, craft weapons, make clothes and weapons for themselves, and build a shelter. It’s basically\u00a0Minecraft’s<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>16-year-old cousin.<\/p>\n

This works similarly to the\u00a0Far Cry\u00a0<\/em>games wherein players are left lost and abandoned in the middle of nowhere by the plot, starting them off with the most basic of weapons and abilities. Players work their way up to higher-tier loot and equipment until they become the most unstoppable force on the map. This prey-to-predator climb can be very well expected with the upcoming\u00a0Far Cry 6.<\/em><\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag<\/h2>\n

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is an open-world<\/a> game that takes place in the tropical islands of the Caribbean. Players sail the seas with each location separated by vast waters, allowing for much naval exploration and onslaught.<\/p>\n

Because\u00a0Black Flag\u00a0<\/em>is a Ubisoft game, players will see a lot of common elements between this\u00a0Assassin’s Creed\u00a0<\/em>game and the\u00a0Far Cry\u00a0<\/em>franchise. The setting is also close to\u00a0Far Cry 6’s\u00a0<\/em>Cuban setting, albeit in a much earlier age, with its bright tropical areas and outposts riddled with enemies.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Half-Life 2<\/h2>\n

With\u00a0Far Cry 6\u00a0<\/em>looking to be a promising addition to the FPS market, it’s worth looking at one of the staples in the genre,\u00a0Half-Life 2<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>This Valve-produced game is an adventure puzzle platformer<\/a> that allows players to pick up anything and everything in the world to use as weapons, or as leverage in a sticky situation.\u00a0Half-Life 2’s\u00a0<\/em>world is filled with non-stationary set pieces that serve as more than backdrops.<\/p>\n

They are actual props players can pick up, allowing them limitless creativity when approaching puzzles. Despite there being a ton of weapons in the game, players can do much with just a crowbar. This makes\u00a0Half-Life 2\u00a0<\/em>a must-play while waiting for\u00a0Far Cry 6,\u00a0<\/em>seeing that the franchise is also known for its platformer\/puzzle side quests.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Watch Dogs 2<\/h2>\n

Another Ubisoft game,\u00a0Watch Dogs 2<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>shares a lot of the gameplay and exploration mechanics of\u00a0Far Cry\u00a0<\/em>while borrowing from\u00a0Rockstar’s\u00a0GTA\u00a0<\/em>playbook. The plot of\u00a0Watch Dogs 2\u00a0<\/em>revolves around a group of young talented hackers looking to overthrow the invasive tech giants who, through the city’s operating system, steal data and prey on their consumers.<\/p>\n

The fun-loving group of Dedsec best resembles the ambitious guerilla groups across\u00a0Far Cry\u00a0<\/em>games with a similar goal in their respective games– to overthrow the powerful governing body. Like\u00a0Far Cry 6,\u00a0<\/em>co-op is also possible in\u00a0Watch Dogs 2,\u00a0<\/em>emulating\u00a0a very similar experience while players wait for the game to come out.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Red Dead Redemption 2<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Though\u00a0Red Dead Redemption 2<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is intended to be more of an open-world adventure game<\/a>, there’s no denying that the life-like mechanics of RDR2<\/em>\u00a0makes for an unparalleled survival game experience as well. Unlike the instant crafting, looting, and upgrading most games have,\u00a0RDR2\u00a0<\/em>implements realistic and tedious animations that make looting enemies after a bloody massacre feels like a chore on its own.<\/p>\n

Even harvesting animal parts greets players with a glorious skinning animation. Hunger and temperature are huge player drawbacks in\u00a0RDR2,\u00a0<\/em>and players must combat it by hunting or looting for food and wearing appropriate winter gear. Playing\u00a0RDR2\u00a0<\/em>gives an overkill glimpse of what survival mechanics\u00a0Far Cry 6\u00a0<\/em>may implement.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Battlefield 1<\/h2>\n

Another staple in the FPS market,\u00a0Battlefield 1<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is a massively multiplayer game set in WW1<\/a>, deep in the trenches and crossfire. A central element of\u00a0the\u00a0Battlefield\u00a0<\/em>games is its large open maps and various weaponized vehicles that can turn the tides of the battle. Much like how the vehicles in the\u00a0Far Cry\u00a0<\/em>games can slaughter hordes of enemies before being shot to a smoking pulp.<\/p>\n

Far Cry\u00a0<\/em>prides itself on vehicular chaos in its games that allows players to ride shotgun with a shotgun. In that regard,\u00a0Battlefield\u00a0<\/em>1\u00a0<\/em>is a game that implements weaponized vehicles, along with a realistic first-person perspective. This EA game can be played while waiting for\u00a0Far Cry 6’s\u00a0<\/em>release.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Far Cry 3<\/h2>\n

While waiting for\u00a0Far Cry 6,\u00a0<\/em>the obvious best game to play would be one of the\u00a0Far Cry\u00a0<\/em>games.\u00a0Far Cry 3<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is arguably the best game in the franchise due to its passionate and moving villain, Vaas Montenegro. This, coupled with the lost castaway experience the game provides along with the long tedious climb to become the island’s most powerful<\/a> warrior, is the definition of the\u00a0Far Cry\u00a0<\/em>formula.<\/p>\n

It is\u00a0Far Cry 3\u00a0<\/em>that has blessed the gaming industry with one of the most iconic scenes in gaming — Vaas’ insanity speech. However, given the constantly changing formula of the franchise, playing just\u00a0Far Cry 3\u00a0<\/em>isn’t enough to fully embrace the essence of\u00a0Far Cry.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Far Cry 5<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Far Cry 5<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>takes place in rural America; particularly Hope County, Montanna. A religious cult has taken over the area and is inducting the locals by force and oppression. Though\u00a0Far Cry 6\u00a0<\/em>seems to resemble\u00a0Far Cry 4\u00a0<\/em>better since both their stories involve a dictator as the main villain<\/a>,\u00a0Far Cry 5\u00a0<\/em>is more similar to the promising sequel in terms of gameplay mechanics.<\/p>\n

Far Cry 5\u00a0<\/em>allows players to fully customize their character, along with the option for various companions to aid the players in the revolution. In addition, vehicles are\u00a0more on-demand in\u00a0FC5\u00a0<\/em>than they are in\u00a0FC4.\u00a0<\/em>This game is also miles different from\u00a0Far Cry 3,\u00a0<\/em>so it’s worth trying them both in anticipation of the sixth main installment.<\/p>\n
