The Final Fantasy<\/em> series is known for its unique look and character designs. The series has always had distinct visuals, and the character designs of Yoshitaka Amano and other talented artists<\/a> have become some of the most instantly recognizable in all of pop culture. But just as there are good designs, some manage to miss the mark.<\/p>\n

Every Final Fantasy <\/em>game features a dynamic cast of characters, but some of these designs can seem bland or generic. With over 70 games in the entire franchise, there are a lot of different looking characters. Some made a positive impression on fans with their unique designs, and other didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Terrible: Luso Clemens<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As the main character in Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift<\/em> and a playable character in Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions<\/em>, Luso is someone fans of the franchise are very familiar with.<\/p>\n

Though he does look different from the myriad of other Final Fantasy<\/em> main characters, Luso\u2019s unique design is just too all over the place to be considered good. There\u2019s just way too much going on visually, which is too bad, as the design itself has some promise.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Cool: Cecil Harvey<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

One of the oldest characters on this list, Cecil is the main character of Final Fantasy IV<\/em>, and plays a role in the sequel games. Though his character development certainly plays a large role in his popularity among fans, Cecil\u2019s design is just as important.<\/p>\n

Cecil\u2019s Paladin armor is some of the most visually striking in the series, and the design instantly grabs your attention. \u201cCool\u201d-looking characters like Cecil are what the series excels at.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Terrible: Nooj<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Fans know Nooj as an NPC from Final Fantasy X-2<\/em>. But when most think about the character, it\u2019s because of his design \u2013 and not in a good way.<\/p>\n

The ex-Crimson Squad member has a very generic looking design. It seems like character designer Tetsuya Nomura was admirably trying something new with Nooj, but the end result wasn\u2019t all that remarkable.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Cool: Oerba Yun Fang<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

A strong presence in the Final Fantasy XIII<\/em> trilogy, Fang left a strong impact on fans throughout those titles. Not only is she a well developed character, but she\u2019s also one of the better designed in the games.<\/p>\n

Lance wielders don\u2019t get nearly enough love in Final Fantasy<\/em>, but Fang\u2019s awesome design makes up for that. Her laidback appearance and striking features perfectly compliment her personality, and her Bladed Lance is one of the coolest in the games.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Terrible: Vaan<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As the main character of both Final Fantasy XII <\/em>and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings<\/em>, Vaan is a familiar face to most. Though he\u2019s much more memorable narratively than he is from a design standpoint.<\/p>\n

Vaan just doesn\u2019t have that many memorable design features. He\u2019s a very simple looking character, and looks visually similar to many Final Fantasy <\/em>protagonists. That\u2019s not the worst thing in the world, but a lazy design still counts as a bad one.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Cool: Paine<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

A playable character in Final Fantasy X-2, Paine certainly stands out. Design aside, the mystery surrounding her past and identity make Paine one of the most interesting characters in the game.<\/p>\n

Paine\u2019s gothic-inspired look really makes her stand out from the other characters in the game. It\u2019s a unique look that works perfectly among the rest of the cast, and gives her character some individuality when compared to other characters in the series.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Terrible: Tidus<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As the main character of Final Fantasy X, <\/em>Tidus is one of the ,ost well known Final Fantasy <\/em>characters out there. But as far as his design goes, there\u2019s much to be desired.<\/p>\n

Like Vaan, Tidus has a fairly bland and unisnspired design. He can visually be swapped with a number of characters from the series, and there wouldn\u2019t be all that much of a difference. Though it might not exactly be \u201cterrible\u201d, his uninspired design is one of the weakest in the series.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Cool: Terra Branford<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

A playable character in Final Fantasy VI, Terra is a powerful magic user and has one of the most striking designs in the game.<\/p>\n

Terra was designed by Yoshitaka Amano, the man responsible for the majority of the series\u2019 main character designs to date. You can see the quality of Amano\u2019s work in Terra\u2019s design. It\u2019s a classic look that still manages to stand out and hold up against some of the series\u2019 newer designs.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Terrible: Cid Del Norte Marguez<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Cid appears in Final Fantasy VI<\/em> as a scientist in the Gestahlian Empire. The Magitek creator plays an important role in the game\u2019s narrative, but his achievements are somewhat out shadowed by his ridiculous design.<\/p>\n

Sporting while overalls with a bright yellow hood, one can assume that Cid isn\u2019 exactly worried about appearances. The strangeness of Yokitaka Amano\u2019s design here is highlighted by Cid\u2019s hood that accentuates his \u2013 what looks to be \u2013 square head. All in all, it\u2019s a strange design that makes it hard to take the character seriously.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Cool: Sephiroth<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As the most well known Final Fantasy <\/em>character out there, no one needs any help remembering what Sephiroth looks like. Most fans will agree that the Final Fantasy VII villain has one of the most recognizable designs<\/a> in the game.<\/p>\n

Though his long silver hair and katana make for a great combination, Sephiroth\u2019s design works as well as it does because of how well it suits his cold personality. Though he has several iterations, his normal appearance is what fans will always think of when they hear the name.<\/p>\n
