Despite even more recent delays throughout the entire movie industry, the promotional feature stills shows December 11 as its target release date.<\/p>\n<p>The trailer was simultaneously uploaded to both 20th Century Studios and Ryan Reynolds\u2019 YouTube channels, but of course, over on Reynolds&#8217; side, there was also a funny bit dropped the day before titled \u201c<em>Trailer Tomorrow. Probably.<\/em>\u201d, where the cast and director Shawn Levy can be seen in a Zoom call joking around the uncertainty around the film\u2019s premiere. Taika Waititi, set to play the main villain, is absent from the call, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/taika-waititi-is-hollywoods-modern-day-alexander-hamilton\/\">probably due to his incredibly busy schedule<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ryan-reynolds-aviation-gin-ad-home-schooling\/\">Ryan Reynolds&#8217; Favorite Gin Now Comes in &#8216;Homeschool Edition&#8217; Size<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/free-guy\/\"><em>Free Guy<\/em><\/a>, starring Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudakar and Taika Waititi, is the story of Guy, an average NPC bank teller living inside the world of a fictional video game called &#8220;Free City&#8221; that looks like mixture of <em>Grand Theft Auto<\/em> with a dash of <em>Fortnite<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6di34z0eAaI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Despite\u00a0its very specific premise, Reynolds and Levy have made it clear that the movie is not only suited for video game fans, much in the same way sports movies are not necessarily about sports. Instead, the game and surrounding culture\u00a0are the means to tell a story that finds it easier to exploit its comedic root and effects. Humor shouldn\u2019t be a problem, given <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ryan-reynolds-deadpool-brand-visionary-2020\/\">Reynolds&#8217; social media presence and advertising prowess<\/a>\u00a0rely on his comedic gifts.<\/p>\n<p>If the success of movies like <em>Wreck-It Ralph<\/em> and <em>Ready Player One<\/em> is anything to judge by, video game themed movies can definitely be <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/video-game-movies-bad-reasons-stop-making-them\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">very successful from a critical and commercial standpoint<\/a>, while paying respect to source material and culture.
