Fans of the Jurassic Park<\/em> franchise may have recently heard of UK-based studio Coatsink Software, which is\u00a0currently working on\u00a0the VR title Jurassic World: Aftermath<\/em><\/strong>. After Jurassic World: Aftermath<\/em> was announced last month<\/a>, it has been announced that\u00a0Coatsink is being acquired by Thunderful Group in an effort to expand its games segment.<\/p>\n

Thunderful, which is made up of Swedish developers Image & Form (the SteamWorld<\/em> series, The Gunk<\/em>) and Zoink (Fe<\/em>, Lost in Random<\/em><\/a>), revealed in a press release that it will pay \u00a323 million (around $29.7 million USD) upfront. Furthermore, there\u2019s an earn-out component to the deal that will depend on Coatsink\u2019s financial performance in the next fiscal year, which could potentially raise the sale price to a maximum of \u00a365.5 million ($84.8 million). Thunderful added that Coatsink will remain independent and, \u201cBe reported as part of Thunderful Games.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since it was founded in 2009, Coatsink has been involved in a wide number of projects, including high-profile VR games like Shadow Point<\/em> and the Esper<\/em> series. The press release notes that the studio has five projects in development, including games like Jurassic World: Aftermath<\/em> and Transformers Battlegrounds<\/a><\/em>, in addition to \u201cseveral work-for-hire and publishing projects\u201d that will \u201cstrengthen Thunderful\u2019s existing development pipeline in 2021 and 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for why Coatsink was picked to help its games segment, Thunderful CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson said\u00a0it has formed a good relationship with studio founders Tom Beardsmore and Paul Crabb, as well as other key personnel. Thunderful\u00a0believes that the studio\u2019s \u201cstrong work ethics and corporate culture will be a very valuable strong complement to Thunderful’s existing businesses,\u201d through the release of Jurassic World: Aftermath<\/em><\/a> and beyond.<\/p>\n

Jurassic World: Aftermath<\/strong><\/em> will release\u00a0for Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 on December 17, 2020.<\/p>\n
