The <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/top-twitch-games-august-2020-views\/\">most-watched game on Twitch this August was <em>League of Legends<\/em><\/a>\u00a0with over 135 million hours, according to software developer StreamElements, and the top three categories on the site that month accumulated over 400 million hours alone.\u00a0One good way to continue expanding an audience is to make services more accessible to everyone, and that&#8217;s exactly what Twitch is doing now.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/twitch\/\">Twitch<\/a> has officially launched the ability for\u00a0its users to adjust the font size that displays when using a stream&#8217;s chat on a web browser. This can be accessed by going into chat settings, and then the chat appearance subsection. Four different text sizes are provided, and users can also choose whether they want the text to be displayed in readable colors or if there should be timestamps on each line.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sea-of-thieves-accessibility-single-analog-stick\/\">Sea of Thieves Adding New Accessibility Feature<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Variable text size is an important feature for those who have visual impairments\u00a0so that assistive devices like screen magnifiers are not necessary, and games like <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-of-war-ps4-small-text\/\"><em>God of War<\/em> (2018) have been decried for using a small text<\/a> at launch. According to Success Criterion 1.4.4 of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), a service of\u00a0the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) that\u00a0has been developing standards for online accessibility since 2008, text should be resizable up to 200 percent &#8220;without loss of content or functionality.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TwitchSupport\/status\/1313237673260314625?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, accessibility guidelines published by Penn State University recommend\u00a0default body text size should be no smaller than 9 pt, with 12 pt being &#8220;generally recommended.&#8221; Developers like <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/watch-dogs-legion-accessibility-options\/\">Ubisoft have also added accessibility features such as\u00a0scalable menus<\/a>\u00a0into their games. Twitch\u00a0has an Accessibility Statement that cites the WCAG as its\u00a0framework for improving\u00a0standards, on top of garnering feedback from streamers with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>As video games become a more ubiquitous part of everyday life, accessibility standards have gradually become a larger focus for the industry at large. Last month, Geoff Keighley announced an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/game-awards-accessibility-category-last-of-us-2\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Innovation in Accessibility&#8221; category for The Game Awards 2020<\/a>\u00a0that will recognize developers &#8220;pushing the medium forward&#8221; by helping games be enjoyed by a wider audience.<\/p>\n<p>Twitch as a service does not have the strongest track record in terms of pleasing its content creators and audiences, with one recent\u00a0controversy seeing the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/twitch-ends-mid-roll-ad-test-backlash\/\">quick removal of Twitch&#8217;s mid-roll ads after backlash<\/a>\u00a0against the idea.
