A number of Japanese media outlets and YouTubers were recently invited to a hands-on demo with the soon-to-be released PS5. The event resulted in the Japanese media publishing detailed photos of the PS5\u2019s hardware, as well as gameplay demos of PS5-exclusive titles like Godfall<\/em><\/a> and Astro\u2019s Playroom, <\/em>but Sony barred attendees from playing with the PS5’s most mysterious feature: its user interface.<\/p>\n

So far, the closest look that fans have received of the PS5\u2019s UI was when Sony teased the console\u2019s startup screen and animation during the official PS5 reveal in June. Since then, Sony has made sure to keep any information regarding the console\u2019s UI from leaking. However, that is not to say that Sony has been completely successful, as one Twitter user recently shared photos of the PS5\u2019s storage screen<\/a>. But the authenticity of those photos have not been verified, and it may be possible that they were faked or doctored.<\/p>\n

According to Dengeki Online, one of the Japanese publications that got to play with the PS5, Sony intentionally barred any sneak peaks of the console\u2019s UI by not allowing the attendees of its media event to open the system\u2019s menus. Sony also blocked the DualSense\u2019s Create button<\/a> from being used, so fans are still in the dark about what the button will do.<\/p>\n

While Sony continues to keep the PS5\u2019s UI a secret, that has not stopped fans from speculating about what the next-gen UI will look like. Last month, a Reddit user created a PS5 UI concept<\/a>\u00a0by evolving the style of the PS4 UI to its logical conclusion. But if the UI images that were leaked a few days ago are authentic, then the PS5\u2019s UI looks to be more similar to the PS3 than the PS4. Sony has said that the PS5\u2019s dashboard will be completely redesigned, with \u201cno pixel untouched.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even though the Japanese media did not get to play with the PS5\u2019s UI, they were still able to release detailed photos of the PS5\u2019s hardware. Japanese Media also reported a small latch hidden inside the top right corner of the console. Many fans have speculated that this could be an SSD slot that allows players to expand the PS5\u2019s storage<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With the PS5\u2019s release date quickly approaching, Sony is likely to officially reveal the console\u2019s UI soon. If\u00a0it doesn’t, which seems unlikely, fans only have to wait 38 more days to play the console and to see the new UI for themselves.<\/p>\n
