Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale shooter,\u00a0Apex Legends<\/em><\/strong>, received a major update on Monday\u00a0including a new collection event, the Flashpoint limited-time game mode, and the launch of the cross-play features. Unfortunately, the\u00a0patch also hit the game’s\u00a0premiere assassin legend, Wraith, with a heartbreaking ninja-nerf.<\/p>\n

In the crowded battle royale genre, Apex Legends<\/em><\/a> stands out by allowing players to assume the roles of legends, or player-characters comparable to those of hero shooters like\u00a0Overwatch<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Valorant.\u00a0<\/em>Set in the same universe as\u00a0Respawn’s\u00a0Titanfall<\/em> series, the game has established itself as a worthy competitor to\u00a0Fortnite<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0PUBG,\u00a0<\/em>and continues to evolve with regular updates and LTMs.<\/p>\n

Sometimes, beloved features must be sacrificed on the altar of competitive balance, however, and such\u00a0was the case with Wraith’s, hunched-forward, arms-out running animation. The animation is an obvious reference to the way ninjas are portrayed as running in anime, most notably Naruto<\/em>. The unique running technique briefly went viral\u00a0when a news crew caught a participant in the Storm Area 51 Movement Naruto-<\/em>running in the background<\/a>\u00a0last September.<\/p>\n
