Watch Dogs: Legion<\/strong><\/em> is the latest in Ubisoft’s action-adventure, hacking game series, and in spite of past delays, will be arriving later this October to current and next-generation platforms. Legion<\/em> is slated to be one of the big releases<\/a> this month,\u00a0but\u00a0recent\u00a0news on the DLC content might make it better or worse for some fans.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Legion<\/em> has a playable Assassin’s Creed<\/em> character<\/a>, leading to much fan speculation on what it entails for both franchises going forward. The character in question was Sandra\u00a0Cassidy,\u00a0a descendant of \u00a0Jacob Frye, one of two\u00a0protagonists from Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate<\/em>. Now it’s revealed that playable DLC character Darcey is tied to Assassin’s Creed<\/em>.\u00a0Players speculated that Ubisoft planned to join the two franchises together in a wider shared universe. However,\u00a0more information\u00a0from the developer\u00a0has\u00a0shed some light on the\u00a0matter, revealing it to be pure fan-service for Watch Dogs: Legion<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0game’s post-launch roadmap was revealed to\u00a0include Darcey among other Watch Dogs<\/em> returning characters like Aiden Pearce<\/a>. Soon after,\u00a0Watch Dogs: Legion’s<\/em> live producer, Lathiesshe Thillainathan, spoke on the matter with IGN. Thillainathan confirms\u00a0that the crossover is very real, but it is only fan-service between the game\u00a0franchises\u00a0and nothing more. He states that\u00a0there’s currently no plans to merge the two game franchises in the foreseeable future.\u00a0Thillainathan would go on to clarify about Darcey and the crossover saying,\u00a0“She’s not canon, it’s purely a fan-service from our side and also the Assassin’s Creed<\/em> side.”<\/p>\n

He acknowledges the fan speculation but makes\u00a0it clear that the crossover is a fun collaboration between both developers. Similarly to when\u00a0players found Final Fantasy 15<\/em> Easter eggs in Assassin’s Creed:\u00a0Origins<\/em><\/a>, which was followed by\u00a0speculation only to turn out\u00a0to be fun fan-service between franchises, too.\u00a0Thilliainathan confirms that Darcey is part of the Assassin order\u00a0with gameplay that Assassin’s Creed<\/em> players will recognize. She’ll even have her own backstory weaved into\u00a0Assassin Creed<\/em> lore with some Easter eggs hinting\u00a0to the franchise,\u00a0but that’s where it stops.<\/p>\n

Thillainathan\u00a0continued to talk about the DLC content to be added to Legion<\/em> after it launches, commenting on what’s\u00a0will come\u00a0as part of the post-launch\u00a0roadmap. He mentions Ubisoft intends to roll out content for\u00a0Watch Dogs: Legion<\/em> Online<\/em>\u00a0after the game’s release and create\u00a0more content for it based on player response to initial online activities like Spiderbot PvP, and Invasion. IGN would go on to ask if Marcus Holloway, the protagonist from Watch Dogs 2<\/em>,\u00a0would also be playable since his fellow hacker\u00a0Wrench is a playable character in Legion<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0too. He only\u00a0teased that more information will come later on that, leaving\u00a0fans something to keep an eye on.<\/p>\n

Watch Dogs: Legion<\/em><\/strong> releases October 29, 2020 for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One\u00a0with PS5 and Xbox Series X in development.<\/p>\n
