Games and NetherRealm Studios made a major announcement Friday morning regarding <em>Mortal Kombat 11<\/em>. Releasing on November 17 will be <strong><em>Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate<\/em><\/strong>, what&#8217;s described as the definitive <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/mortal-kombat-11\/\"><em>Mortal Kombat 11<\/em><\/a> experience. Not only will <em>Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate<\/em> feature a variety of new content, including new fighters, but\u00a0alongside it will be a free\u00a0<em>Mortal Kombat 11<\/em> upgrade for next-generation consoles. And yes, NetherRealm&#8217;s confirmed free upgrades for both PS5 and Xbox Series X\/S.<\/p>\n<p>Next-gen upgrades for games already available on current generation consoles has become a controversial topic in recent months. Games including <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/spider-man-ps5-remaster-free-upgrade-ps4\/\"><em>Marvel&#8217;s Spider-Man<\/em><\/a> and<em> Control<\/em> are being made available on either PS5 or Xbox Series X, but will have to be rebought to get their next-gen updates. NetherRealm isn&#8217;t following that path, instead deciding to preserve the game&#8217;s community regardless of which platform they buy<em> Mortal Kombat 11<\/em> for.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mortal-kombat-11-8-million-copies\/\">Mortal Kombat 11 Hits Massive Sales Milestone<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a press release, Warner Bros. Games breaks down exactly what kind of next-generation updates <em>Mortal Kombat 11<\/em> players will get if they upgrade to a next-generation console. Both the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mortal-kombat-11-ultimate-ps5-xbox-series-x\/\">PS5 and Xbox Series X and S<\/a> will offer 4K dynamic resolution for <em>Mortal Kombat 11<\/em>. Additionally, the game will have enhanced visuals, improved loading times, and cross-generation console compatibility for select modes.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/noobde\/status\/1314195025203470338\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Regarding that last feature, cross-generation console compatibility effectively means crossplay regardless of the player&#8217;s console. <em>Mortal Kombat 11<\/em>&#8216;s &#8220;Krossplay Support&#8221; includes PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, Xbox One, and both Xbox Series X and S. Do note that it&#8217;s limited to select modes which haven&#8217;t been specified as of yet. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mortal-kombat-11-crossplay\/\">Crossplay was previously offered for PS4 and Xbox One<\/a>, so <em>Ultimate<\/em>&#8216;s launch will just be expanding it to the newly launched consoles. Previously, crossplay could be turned off with a toggle, so it should be toggleable going forward, too.<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind that the free upgrades for next-generation consoles and crossplay will be available to all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/mortal-kombat-11-characters-for-beginners\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Mortal Kombat 11<\/em> players<\/a> regardless of whether they purchase the <em>Ultimate<\/em> upgrade. However, they&#8217;ll have to wait for Ultimate to launch before the features go live. The feature will also be available for all players regardless of when or how they bought the game, so new <em>Mortal Kombat 11<\/em> PS4 buyers will still get the upgrade even after November 17.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate<\/em> bundle will feature <em>Mortal Kombat 11<\/em>, Kombat Pack 1, the <em>Aftermath<\/em> expansion, as well as the new Kombat Pack 2. Kombat Pack 2 adds the highly anticipated <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mortal-kombat-11-kombat-pack-2-characters-mileena-rain-rambo\/\">Mileena, Rain, and a Sylvester Stallone-voiced Rambo<\/a>.
