Many people are aware that\u00a0Dungeons and Dragons<\/strong><\/em> is having a renaissance in the public eye, and it’s being\u00a0increasingly played over platforms like Zoom due to the pandemic.\u00a0Some people even tune in among thousands of others to watch professionals like the cast of <\/a>Critical Role<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>play. And next week, people can watch former US presidential candidate Andrew Yang roll the dice for a fundraiser.<\/p>\n

Dungeons and Dragons<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>isn’t a video game, but it’s proven itself to be fun for many people to play or to watch others stream. Streamed campaigns like\u00a0Critical Role, Dimension 20,<\/em> and\u00a0The Adventure Zone<\/em> often raise money for their professional players’ benefit, but even popular games like these sometimes dabble in fundraising.<\/p>\n

Andrew Yang is most well-known for being an\u00a0 entrepreneur who made his presidential campaign last year accessible to the Internet and focused partially around his idea of a UBI (universal basic income). Although he’s not running for president anymore,\u00a0Yang hasn’t backed off from the political landscape<\/a> and will roll up a character in the “D&D for Dems” on October 12 at 7 PM CT for Donna Imam,\u00a0a Texan Democrat running for Congress.<\/p>\n

The other party members in the fundraising campaign slash DnD<\/em> campaign will include Vyasar Ganesan from the Netflix show\u00a0Indian Matchmaking<\/em>, and VAs Erika Ishii and Zehra Fazal. Ishii has appeared on\u00a0Critical Role<\/em> as well as a Vampire the Masquerade<\/em>-centered tabletop<\/a> stream, and Fazal\u00a0voiced Halo in\u00a0Young Justice: Outsiders<\/em>. Although Yang is the only person in the party without acting experience, he does have plenty of public speaking and persona cultivation knowledge from his presidential bid.<\/p>\n

The event is hosted by a\u00a0few political groups like Asian American Democrats of Texas, and the people involved in the stream are all of Asian descent. Asian American representation in entertainment<\/a>\u00a0is an important topic in the world today, and many people are making efforts to put spotlights onto more diverse streamers and players in the world of video games particularly.<\/p>\n

Not everyone can donate to the stream; only adult US citizens or lawful permanent residents can give money, and federal contractors can’t donate either. And this isn’t the biggest DnD<\/em>-centered event happening recently; Baldur’s Gate 3<\/em> is based partially on the DnD<\/em> rules<\/a>\u00a0and its Early Access just launched. For people who don’t like streaming and prefer just rolling around a table with friends, even in pandemic times there are remote options available for all sorts of ways to enjoy\u00a0Dungeons and Dragons<\/em>.<\/p>\n
