When\u00a0Marvel’s Avengers<\/em><\/strong> was released, players generally fell on a spectrum\u00a0between\u00a0hyped and\u00a0prematurely disappointed. For some, the game has delivered on its hype, and a few have even said The Defenders could use the Marvel’s Avengers<\/em> treatment<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For many others however, however, the hype has dissipated.\u00a0Marvel’s Avengers<\/em>\u00a0suffers from several of the same problems other Live Service games<\/a> have had. The game’s missions are geared towards grinding for loot with other players, which is reliant on a matchmaking service to create a party. Unfortunately, that loop has problems, and they are becoming more pronounced as players drop the game.<\/p>\n

Many players are disgruntled over the lack of information Crystal Dynamics has shared about\u00a0Avengers<\/em> going forward. Several additions on\u00a0its roadmap have been pushed back, and key issues with the game have not been addressed. While a patch last month addressed over 1,000 issues<\/a>, the game still has fundamental problems\u00a0which have\u00a0contributed\u00a0to a steadily declining playerbase, with PC users at times dipping below 1,000 according to a report by Forbes. As a result, matchmaking has had trouble putting together teams for post-story missions.<\/p>\n

While other people are not essential for multiplayer, many prefer real\u00a0players to A.I. partners. The lack of players on Marvel’s\u00a0Avengers<\/em>\u00a0is compounded\u00a0by multiplayer restrictions. Each player is required to be a different hero, but players pick their hero before matchmaking starts. This extends the process further as four different heroes need to be\u00a0found to start\u00a0a single mission. With many players gravitating toward characters like Kamala Khan<\/a> and Hulk, rather than heroes like\u00a0Iron Man, the most popular Avengers rarely see play due to this restriction.<\/p>\n

The game’s playerbase is falling on PlayStation as well, though it’s uncertain if it’s as severe as\u00a0the drop on PC. A huge part of this is players becoming disillusioned with the game’s rewards. This issue was only exacerbated by a patch that quietly made loot worse<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n

This might not be so bad if there was more on the horizon for\u00a0Marvel’s Avengers<\/em>, but little is certain as of this writing. Players have expressed a disinterest in grinding for pointless loot<\/a>, and there is little news on Hawkeye’s DLC, which has no solid release date. Some say\u00a0Avengers<\/em> is starting to look like\u00a0Anthem<\/em>, and that’s not a comparison any live service title\u00a0wants.<\/p>\n

Marvel’s Avengers<\/strong><\/em> is available for PC, PS4, Stadia and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.<\/p>\n
