Players can tame the very creatures Hunters used to hunt in previous games. Players need to form a team of monsters to overcome many challenges in their journey. The first\u00a0<em>Monster Hunter\u00a0<\/em>game in the PS2 didn&#8217;t become as popular internationally due to its lack of advertising. However, its success in Japan and its small fanbase in the West slowly helped the game (and the franchise) get its following.<\/p>\n<p><em>Monster Hunter<\/em>\u00a0starts small, with only 29 large monsters and 11 small monsters. Rather, it gives the first look of a portable\u00a0<em>Monster Hunter\u00a0<\/em>experience. This game also introduces a lot of quality-of-life features that enhances a Hunter&#8217;s journey outside combat.<\/p>\n<p><em>Monster Hunter Freedom<\/em>\u00a0introduces the Yian Garuga, the more aggressive cousin of the notorious Yian Kut-Ku. Interestingly, players can hunt Monster Subspecies, but aren&#8217;t told if they&#8217;re hunting that specific variant unless quests mention their color. This game serves as a perfect introduction to the franchise&#8217;s more elaborate mechanics.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Monster Hunter Freedom 2<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/MH-Rise-Other-Games-4-MH-Freedom-2.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Players of the PlayStation Portable love\u00a0<em>Monster Hunter Freedom 2\u00a0<\/em>for reinvigorating the\u00a0<em>MH\u00a0<\/em>concept for portable devices. This game serves as the first release of\u00a0<em>Monster Hunter 2\u00a0<\/em>outside Japan. Interestingly enough, the game isn&#8217;t simply an &#8220;adaptation&#8221; of\u00a0<em>MH2\u00a0<\/em>but also introduces some new concepts. This game first introduces the Akantor, Tigrex, and Giadrome. Moreover, the game introduces new weapons such as the Bow, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/monster-hunter-world-pro-tips-long-sword-users\/\">Long Sword<\/a>, Hunting Horn, and Gunlance.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Monster Hunter 3<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/MH-Rise-Other-Games-5-MH-3.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Fans who own the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/wii\/\">Nintendo Wii<\/a> should definitely give\u00a0<em>Monster Hunter 3\u00a0<\/em>a shot. Interestingly, this first entry in the game&#8217;s third generation removes most monsters from previous games as well as their subspecies. Only the Diablos, Rathalos, and Rathian return as the game&#8217;s large monsters. <em>MH3\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>MH3U\u00a0<\/em>are the only two games in the franchise to include underwater combat and swimming mechanics.<\/p>\n<p>Players should try\u00a0<em>MH3\u00a0<\/em>to experience some unique changes <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/monster-hunter-world-pro-tips-sword-shield-users\/\">in terms of weapon systems<\/a>. While the game introduces the Switch Axe, there&#8217;s the absence of Dual Swords, Hunting Horns, Gunlances, and Bows. As with\u00a0<em>Tri<\/em>, the Shakalaka returns as companions in the game. The new Target Camera feature allows players to focus more on larger monsters. This game starts the trend of introducing new and handy features to simplify the Hunter&#8217;s experience.<\/p>\n<p>More importantly, the touch-screen bottom of the 3DS can organize various menus and information that the players see fit. Their entire 3Ds transforms into a handy hunting companion. In addition,\u00a0features from\u00a0<em>Tri\u00a0<\/em>such as Free Hunt, or new features such as nocturnal monster sub-variants become prominent in\u00a0<em>MH3U<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/MH-Rise-Other-Games-7-MH-4-Ultimate.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Players who still have access to the Nintendo 3DS should definitely give\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/monster-hunter-4-ultimate\/\">Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>a shot. In this game, players become Hunters who join a traveling caravan as they explore new areas.
