Last year, Xbox Game Studios released Gears 5<\/a>,<\/em> which is the fifth installment to the Gears of Wars<\/em> franchise. Despite being\u00a0the fifth main game in the franchise, Gears 5 was<\/em> considered as a spiritual reboot to the Gears of War<\/em> series, and the game received glowing reviews during its release. At the moment, there is still no official announcement for Gears 6<\/strong><\/em>, but\u00a0the story of Gears 5<\/em> pretty much laid out the foundation for a sequel, which is why it is likely that another game will be released in the future.<\/p>\n

Given\u00a0that Gears 6<\/em> is yet to be confirmed, fans would have to wait for Microsoft to make the official announcement. However, should the studio release another game in the Gears of War<\/em> franchise, what should players expect to see? Of course, the direction of Gears 6<\/em> remains uncertain especially since Rob Fergusson, the studio head of Gears<\/em> developer The Coalition, left Microsoft to join Blizzard<\/a>. Now, for those interested, here is a breakdown of when could Gears 6<\/em> arrive, what players should expect from the sequel, and where will it be released?<\/p>\n

Although the possibility of Gears 6 <\/em>is still uncertain, fans of the franchise shouldn’t worry too much given that it is all but confirmed that there will be another game in the Gears of War<\/em> franchise. It is worth remembering that Gears 5<\/em> was heralded as one of Microsoft’s most successful first-party games<\/a> since Halo 4<\/em>, so it is pretty much guaranteed that a sequel is in the works.\u00a0So why hasn’t Microsoft made an announcement about Gears 6<\/em>, and when is the likeliest release date for the game?<\/p>\n

Looking at Gears 5<\/em>, players will remember that the game was released back in September of 2019, which is almost four years after the release of Gears of War 4.<\/em> Of course, a lot of big things are happening at Microsoft right now, such as its purchase of numerous studios such as Bethesda<\/a>, and of course, the release of the Xbox Series X and Series S next month. Given this, it wouldn’t be unlikely if Microsoft will announce Gears 6<\/em> before the year ends. Moreover, if Gears 6 i<\/em>s announced this year, then players should expect to wait at least a few more years to develop the game, and if the process will be as long as Gears 5<\/em>, then the likeliest release date for Gears 6<\/em> could fall in 2024 at the latest.<\/p>\n

As previously mentioned, Gears 5<\/em> left many loose threads in the story of the game, which is a perfect setup for a sequel. In the last game, players witnessed the story of Kait and her teammates and how they barely manage to survive from a brutal attack by the Swarm. To the uninitiated, The Swarm is a race of invaders that serves as the main villains of the game. Towards the end of Gears 5<\/em><\/a>, Kait encountered the queen of the Swarm, who happens to be a mutated form of her mother, Reyna Diaz, who was captured by the invaders in the past.<\/p>\n

During the encounter with the Queen of the Swarm, Kait’s teammates Del Walker and James Dominic Fenix were captured and Kait has only time to save one of them. The decision of which to save falls to the player, and whoever they choose will live while the other dies. Given the huge impact of this ending in the franchise, it is likely that the game’s developer will allow players to input their choices from Gears 5 <\/em>to Gears 6,<\/em>\u00a0giving\u00a0them\u00a0the ability to\u00a0continue their story with their decisions.<\/p>\n

It is no secret that the Gears of War<\/em> franchise has always been an Xbox exclusive game given that Microsoft owns the studio that creates it. Given this, it is unlikely that players will see Gears 6<\/em> in other platforms apart from Xbox consoles and the PC. Now, given that the game is still unannounced, it is likely that Microsoft will unveil the upcoming sequel after the release of\u00a0its next-generation consoles<\/a>. Of course, given that the game is still years away from seeing the light of day, it is more than likely that Gears 6<\/em> will be released on the Xbox Series X, Series S, and the PC. Hopefully,\u00a0Microsoft won’t take too long to finally confirm the development of Gears 6.<\/em><\/p>\n
