In 2019, Capcom released the\u00a0Resident Evil 2<\/em> remake to rave reviews and strong sales, and it wasted no time moving forward with a remake of\u00a0Resident Evil 3<\/em><\/strong>. Released just over a year after\u00a0the\u00a0RE2<\/em> remake, the\u00a0Resident Evil 3<\/em><\/a> remake modernizes Jill Valentine’s horrific encounters with Nemesis for current-generation consoles, increasing the visuals and offering a number of other enhancements.<\/p>\n

The big draw of the\u00a0Resident Evil 3<\/em> remake is that it lets players experience the story with vastly improved visuals, letting players explore arguably the most visually-impressive rendition of Raccoon City<\/a> to date. The game also features a modern control scheme, letting players experience\u00a0Resident Evil 3<\/em> without having to deal with old-school inconveniences like tank controls or fixed camera angles.<\/p>\n

The star of\u00a0Resident Evil 3<\/em> is undoubtedly the Nemesis monster, which relentlessly pursues Jill Valentine<\/a> throughout Raccoon City. Nemesis is an imposing, terrifying figure that has a tendency to burst through walls and lash out at Jill with tentacles that would be at home in an H.P. Lovecraft novel. Players that manage to successfully fight Nemesis head-on are rewarded for their efforts with special items and the like, but it’s usually best to just run away from him whenever possible.<\/p>\n

Now, some may be wondering why\u00a0Resident Evil 3<\/em> isn’t ranked higher and named later in the month, but there are some good reasons for that. Even though it is still a very high quality horror gaming experience,\u00a0Resident Evil 3<\/em> has been criticized<\/a> for removing some aspects of the original, like letting players make choices that change the course of the story. It’s also a very short game, with players able to complete it in about five hours or even less without too much effort.<\/p>\n

The way Nemesis was handled was also a point of contention among critics and fans. Nemesis encounters in\u00a0Resident Evil 3<\/em> are largely scripted<\/a>, whereas the Mr. X encounters in the\u00a0Resident Evil 2\u00a0<\/em>remake were far more unpredictable. But despite this, Nemesis running after Jill is still a legitimately scary and intense experience.<\/p>\n

The main reason a horror fan would play\u00a0the\u00a0Resident Evil 3<\/em> remake would be to experience the main story, but it’s also worth pointing out that the game comes with an asymmetrical multiplayer experience as well. Taking cues from other asymmetrical multiplayer horror games like\u00a0Friday the 13th<\/em> and\u00a0Dead By Daylight<\/em>,\u00a0Resident Evil Resistance<\/em> is a multiplayer mode in\u00a0RE3<\/em><\/a> where one player tries to kill a team of survivors. The multiplayer mode goes a long way in injecting the game with more replay value than it would have otherwise, making\u00a0RE3<\/em> a safe bet for horror fans despite some of its potential flaws.<\/p>\n

Resident Evil 3<\/strong><\/em> is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.<\/p>\n
